Our biggest ever game?

Judging by the clamour for tickets, next Tuesday will be in the top 5 of all time.
If we get to Milan, that will be number 1 in my opinion.

Gillingham has taken on an almost mythical importance with blues largely because of the unbelievable drama of how we won it.

All the spurious claims that we would've sunk without a trace add fuel to the fire but had we not gone up that year we'd've gone up the next year or the next .

Biggest games in our history are for me Newcastle 68 QPR 12 and West Ham 14 - win those and we were champions, doesn't get any bigger than that. One could argue that if we get to CL final that would be the biggest game in our history as it's widely viewed as a more important competition.

Haven't read the whole thread so apologies if it's already been mentioned but I view the rags semi as right up there in terms of importance - a truly seminal moment

I think west ham 14 feels less significant than QPR purely because we had already won it once and we knew we likely would again. To an extent the same does apply to Gillingham a bit.

Fwiw I'd say because it's uncharted territory and for the global resonance the semi is the "most important game we've played in" for sure. But not necessarily the "most important game for us" which different schools of thought could happily have as qpr or gillingham or newcastle.

I was seminaling all over.

Early on in the thread someone mentioned losing biggest games, eg Luton - I remember that, my cuz is Luton fan...

Anyway, biggest game as per the previous 28 pages, is very subjective, dependent on your age, your feelings towards football, success/failure, friends and enemies.

Winning div 1 for the 1st time, must have been massive in its day, ditto FA cup 1st time, and ECWC (as someone previously mentioned, a proper knockout European cup).

So, from my own lifetime, in no particular order, and not neccesarily the 'biggest':

76 tueart overhead kick - watching kids emulate it on the playground, is my 1st city memory.

Tommy Hutchinson OG against Tottenham in FA cup final - 1st really sad time.

Huddersfield 10-1 - unbelievable, can remember getting called in to look at the uni teletext and thinking it must be a typo.

Gillingham - hearing about it 2nd hand from my cuz (same one) who'd been on the phone to his fiancé from stag -do in Vegas, whilst it was on - one of the most expensive phone calls he'd ever made! Retold in detail to me whilst sitting in pool on 2nd floor of Hilton, natch. Earliest I'd ever bought a round of drinks! Most surreal weekend ive ever had.

1-6 - again watching it on teletext, this time in the middle of nowhere in Wales, seeing the score change sporadically to get to 1-3 and then jump to 1-6 :-)
It felt like 35 years of supporting city was the best, and that, yes, finally, it was really going to be different from now on.

Aguerrroooo - scared the wife, with the animalistic roar that came from the depths. 35 years of hurt ... Gone.
There's an excellent montage on YouTube, makes me well up every time.

Back on topic:
If we win the CL, then that would be City's biggest game ever. Imo

But it probably won't be the most emotional, unless we beat Bayern/athletico with 3 goals in the 90+ minutes...

1 game at a time though, 1 game at a time... But I did have a 5-1 premonition for Real...
