Our biggest ever game?

Semi Final against Utd in the FA. Said we are now as good as you and getting better. Or the game at home against them the season after, if they had got a point they would have won it at our place.

all this biggest game is just the press trying to build it up
i refuse to accept under any circumstance a cup semi against utd or a league game against them as our most important historical game, no chance.

I was a shareholder in those days and consistently worried about our finances but it is true we may well have been nearer the wall just before Mansour saved us. However, it is hardly inconceivable that both Thaksin and Mansour would not have bought the club if we had not beaten Gillingham because we can only speculate on events that never happened. I'm quite sure we would have survived but I have no idea in what form.

Oh, yes. My argument is that the club would have survived, but it might not have been in a form that would have attracted the current ownership.

As I say, there may well have been an issue with the stadium had we stayed down. The binding agreement for us to move wasn't signed until the opening day of the following season, and informed sources suggest that City staying down might have caused issues.

It was also a good season for us to go up, because the second tier the following season was relatively weak, which allowed us to go straight though. Had we made it up a season later, teams like Fulham, Bolton and Blackburn (who all had major financial backing then) had got their act together and were much improved compared with the season we went up under Royle. I don't think we'd have got promoted ahead of teams like that.

The other point that DD raises, and which is valid, is the psychological effect on the club. It gave us an enormous boost to come back from the dead in the way we did, whereas the opposite might have been the case if we'd stayed down.

I could've sworn we won the European Cup Winner's Cup final in 1970.
Winning a European trophy is far bigger than competing in the q/final of the Chump's League.

Gillingham for me. If we'd lost that one we'd be fucked. Lose the chumps league qf and we've lost nothing.

Just wait till the RagDipperMeedya start feeding on a reverse. Piranhas will have nothin' on 'em!

There were several games in the title winning season. To stuff MANUre 1-6, the fuck up their Munchen anniversary with Darius and Benjani scoring, Vinny's goal in the derby and the QPR game are from recent history, but none of those took us onto a level we weren't already occupying. This game has the potential of taking us onto a Semi in Europe's most prestigious competition. Uncharted territory.

Am not taking the piss but playing`s devil advocate what was the crowd , and do you think there was more at the press conference today ?
The crowd was made up 90% of City fans, although I really don't see how the size of a crowd has any bearing on the importance of a game, except for rags of course
