Our biggest ever game?

Really enjoyed this thread and it's interesting reading people's range of opinions.
Of course, it's impossible to quantify what has been our most significant fixture in the clubs history but most have alluded to games in the modern era.
Could we make a case for Luton town in 83' and the effects that relegation had in the club? Some above have alluded to the physiological effect that certain games have had and was this not only a relegation to the second tier, with the footballing and financial consequences that went with that but also the beginning of 'typical city'!

We were never closer than under Thaksin, His money had just been frozen and John Wardle does not get the credit he deserves.

He saved the club one week over Christmas.

People have to remember, after Gillingham, we were still relegated again, the stadium was only ever getting built if we agreed to our participation.

I would go as far as to say, that, along with our huge supporter base, is the only reason Sheikh Mansour came to the rescue.

My understanding was that without Wardle's intervention, we would have gone into receivership.

I agree the stadium and supporter base were key - along with Gary Cook's silver tongue? - but less confident about how well the support would have held up if we had endured longer in lower divisions. I would have kept my season ticket though.

Gillingham first middle and last. Had we lost, we were in danger of becoming another Leeds, Sheffield Weds/Utd etc.

Everything we are now started from that day and whilst the match versus PSG is arguably our biggest in the CL, our clubs very existence doesn't depend on it.

Newcastle away. Bigger is every way, because it involved a direct rival and more than one team in the equation.

People forget, Newcastle were also going for a Champions League place.

Without Newcastle, there is nothing. No QPR, there is no Sergio moment.

When I saw 'Newcastle away', I thought you meant in 1968 and I was about to agree with you. I think the previous game, the 1-0 derby, in which VK scored and scum didn't have one shot on target was a much bigger game than the Newcastle one.

And what about the game, to which my username alludes, when we won the ECWC? A much bigger game, IMHO.
