Our Finishing...

How many goals have we scored?

Stop making up issues that don't exist.

how can we complain, beautiful football and probably the best PL has seen. Might top 100 goals in the league, would have taken this at the beginning of season.

But pep thrives on perfection, he knows that what chances have been created over the season we should have two front players on 30 goals each by now. Heard somebody say "sterling has pulled us out of it once or twice this season". But poor finishing has put us in the position of requiring a late goal when really like at Burnley we should have had a comfortable lead.

Sterling can finish well, seen some great goals, but percentage of finishes to chances is low. He is not a good finisher or prolific. I think after Saturday pep will have made his mind up to sign another main winger striker. He will also definitely sign a new all out striker.

A good paring up front that can finish would have had a hat full of goals between them vs burnley. To many spells with no goals from Sergio, get in with the elite in the later stages of the CL and they put away 1 goal per two chances.

Sterling
David Silva
Bernardo
Gundogan
All absolute brilliant players. All have amazing attributes that have helped us achieve what we have so far.
But all of them have pretty poor finishing skills.

Aguero
Jesus
Sane
KDB
These 4 are our best finishers and at the moment 2 are missing. It really does hinder us.
Sane is a huge miss.

The reason we went for Mahrez and Sanchez is because they can finish and create something out of nothing. If Sanchez played for us against Burnley we would have won that.
It’s like when Arsenal beat Palace 2-3 at Xmas it was because of Sanchez. We then drew 0-0 with them as we piss too many chances up the wall.

Beating Arsenal in the final is gonna be a tough ask.
Unless Aguero decides to have a fantastic game we will struggle as we will always concede at least 1.

In the summer we do need that extra finisher who also has the intricate skills and work rate needed to fit in our team. We don’t need anymore Berardo/David Silva types. We have enough of those and they’re the best. We need a finisher who can rotate with Sterling and Sane. So signing Mahrez I feel is a good idea and I hope it comes off.

If you want to be the very best then you just take Hazard or Salah.

We are on target to break the record for the number of Premiership goals scored and you think our finishing is not really good enough? Tough task-master.
No, and below are facts, not a complaint. Saturday was one of our poorer shots/shots on target games of the season, so it wasn't the one I was talking about.

Its not just yesterday though, we won 3-0 on Wednesday, great, but we should have been 3-0 up after 20 minutes, and we were still not certain of a win with just over 20 minutes to go (19 shots, 10 on target).

Other examples recently...
Cardiff last week, 17, and 7, but only 2 goals.
Bristol C away, 28 shots, and only 6 on target, and at home 26 and 6 on target, so in two legs 54 shots, only 12 on target, 5 goals, and a win by only a 2 goal margin over 2 legs. Newcastle 21, and 9 on target (18 corners).
Watford 18, and 7 on target
Palace 15, and 4, and didn't score.

There are anomalies of course, Burnley in the cup, only 5 on target, and we scored 4 of them.
In 2 legs in the League Cup SF, we scored 5 from 54 attempts, managing on 12 attempts on target, do you think that's good enough ? I'd call it wasteful.

Mahrez has a worse conversion rate than Sterling. KDB's conversion rate is well below Sterling's; in fact, so far in the league, KDB's conversion rate is below both Silva's and Gundogan.
