Or maybe they are just that bit crazy over there.

I don't think it has anything to do with the stadium, standing, alcohol or type of membership, the atmosphere is generated by people and there are plenty of passionate fans going to the Etihad, sober, lashed or somewhere in between. There have been plenty of great days and atmospheres, the game against Newcastle a few years back was electric and we were only 'good' then !! Obviously other games have been fantastic too so it can't just be the stadium. All I can say is give it the City war cry next game and do it often, shut them up, let's do the Poznan and if there are some catchy and high tempo new songs lets get them on here!

Wrong!

Have you ever been to anything with people present?
Concerts in our stadium is an example... on the pitch are thousands of people stood up dancing, singing and making noise.
In the stands are a good amount of people dancing and singing, but most are sat down in their seats watching the Band/Artists as though they are sat at home with the Tv. awful.

I've been to all kinds of events and some I've not been able to get standing so have opted for the seated areas and they have been dismal. Start singing or dancing? many people turn and look with disapproval... But only a few yards away are thousands of people stood up near to the stage dancing away.

Standing is a key ingredient in improving atmosphere in all kinds of events. Safe standing is the solution for Football and maintaining safety standards.

We expect passion from our players yet fail to show it ourselves.

Most of these players we have signed come from this fan culture and have played in stadiums packed full of stood fans creating noise.
They sign for City and walk into a stadium packed full with 46,000 people all sat down, arms folded, kids on the ipads, with 1,200 actually stood up making noise.

No wonder they don't applaud us.
I agree to a certain extent, but our standing areas are often as guilty of not creating an atmosphere as those sat down with their arms folded.

Puts us to shame. In fact it makes us look like a joke!

Most people seem to think that standing areas are the key to a better atmosphere, but I'm not so sure. I've just watched a 'Big Match Special' on Sky from 1979. City played Chelsea at home. We lost 2-3 and the atmosphere at the game came across as absolute shite. I was at that game, it was cold, miserable and of course in those days, City v Chelsea was not a big fixture. My memory of Maine Road from the 70's, 80's and 90's was that the atmosphere was good when we played Utd, Liverpool, Leeds etc and mediocre at best for run of the mill games. A bit like today really. It certainly wasn't the cauldron of noise that it's now perceived as. Enthusiastic, passionate fans are the key to 'atmosphere' and whether they sit or stand is probably irrelevant.

I'd go along with that. I've been through many a game at the old place and the atmosphere was dead. I think the fans need something to happen on the pitch sometimes to liven them up. Maybe even just a bit of controversy to put some fire in the belly. I'm as guilty as the next fan so it isn't a criticism, just an observation. Not a great singer myself either. Haven't got much of a vocal range sadly since my voice broke all those years ago.

Does kick off time matter? I don't feel as up for it at 12.45 or 1.30 than I do 3 or 5.30. I love a match under the floodlights too.

Excellent point.

The night games under the floodlights when its cold and chilly have a special ambience about them.
The early & late kick offs just destroy it.
Remember when we played Everton a few years ago? I think it was an 11.30am kick off (was it a Sunday as well?) - absoulety crap!
