Owning a nice watch

Real quickie if anyone’s around to answer this:

I’ve a chance to buy a second hand Movado series 800 tomorrow (for about £150).

Love the look (Rolex sub/sports watch) but know little about them.

Retail around £800 for thus particular model but unsure whether it’s worth it (& instead looking at some of those Chinese models posted here recently in this style)?

Need to make a quick decision in the morning though.

Spoke to a lad at work about this - said he's seen some on resell for £700 but he's not over the top with a Quartz movement watch.
I guess I'd have to factor in repairs too (and hopefully there's some warranty left on the watch).

That's the trouble with picking stuff up like this at a charity shop, unlike a proper watch reseller....

Been selling a few of mine, still have an immaculate Oris Pilot watch if any interest?

I'd love a Panerai, might treat myself as a hang my boots up present ;-)

Is there a level below the Rolex's etc?

I'd love to dip into a nice watch. I own an Armani one and a Boss one, but would like a more expensive one to wear on nice occasions.

Are Steinhart any good? I want one that people know is quite expensive... I mean why else?

If you want to do that, leave the price tag on ;)

I've had an Omega Seamaster for years. Proper divers watch, athough I haven't been diving any further than the bath in the 10 years I've had it. Went to Egypt this summer and dived for the first time in nearly 20 years. Came back up to find my watch had let water in, and it turns out I hadn't pressed the dial in properly. I couldn't get it looked at for two weeks until I got back home, at which point inside had rusted.

Now I've had to pay £350 and send it away for 15 weeks. One of the world's most famous diving watches and I totally fucked it up first time underwater.

Tudor make some very nice pieces. They are in the Rolex family so their models look pretty close to the Rolex ones.

Almost bought myself a Pro Pilot on a cruise but didn't go through with it... Love the size though, drop me a PM with details about yours if it's still for sale

Eek mate.
£350 is sum some just for a fix.
Obviously way out of warranty too.

What's everyone's thoughts on quartz/non automatic watches?

I was excited about that Movodo until someone mentioned it was quartz (not a huge issue but would mean battery replacements).
Still think (if it checks out/damage etc) £150 is a good price, but I'll nip down at lunch (it's in a charity shop btw) but it's displayed with all the boxes and manuals (at least from the window display view).
