Owning a nice watch

They really are I have a Tudor black bay GMT and it's just like the Rolex twin brother
Snap. I have the Tudor gmt as well and I simply cannot find another watch at that price point that is better value for money. It’s a lot of Dough to shell out for a watch (they’ve just gone up to about £3.4k) but it is a lifetime watch and will outlive me.

Runs at +1.5 secs/day, 70 hour power reserve, and a service about once every 10 years. And you can walk into a dealer and buy one tomorrow. No 8 year waiting list like it’s big brother.

At the £3-4k price point there is nothing to beat it.

Might look into a kit for replacing the battery and do that myself when the times comes (it's out of warranty anyway).
I guess service costs might come up one day.
Find a good, reliable watchmaker/jeweler to do this. The internals need a blow out now and again and, must importantly, the gasket needs to be replaced. It would be a sickner if you got moisture inside because you tried to re-use the gasket.

Yeah, that’s a good point.

Actually I need to find a repairer as I’ve my dads old watch (actually his dad’s) which became broken a few years ago.

Not even sure where to start with it tbh, but I’ll post a pic on here.

I have a Citizen Eco-Dive Skyhawk that's not worked or been worn in nearly 20 years if anyone's keen?

Also got a Tissot T-Touch Expert that again hasn't been worn for a while but thinking of getting it going again as it's a nice watch and has sentimental value so not getting rid.

Anyone got any advice as to where? Online or...? I tried a few local jewellers in Huddersfield a few years ago but they didn't seem to want to touch it (the watch), which put me off, so any advice appreciated. Might need a service or just battery?

Nice collection you have, I'm on the infamous 'list' at several AD'S for a polar explorer II but not holding my breath.
I've never really been a huge fan of panerai but in the flesh they are pretty beautiful. Considered the blue base panerai but 5k for a manual wind is steep.
Recently added a seamaster 300 and I bloody love it and fantastic bang for your buck.
My mate has just got the blue and white aquaracer gmt and that is lovely for the money aswell.

Thanks. It'll be a tough one to bag the Polar Explorer. The list game has tarnished the brand a little, I think. Its a bigger watch too, at 42mm.

Does anybody know any good watch repairers in Manchester? I have a Glycine automatic that's about 50 years old and I'm struggling to find a repairer to fix it. It's not an expensive watch but belonged to my father so I'd like to get it working.
One repairer had a look and managed to get it going after replacing a couple of parts but it only lasted a couple of months and he's now retired.

I'd be
interested too (a watch that belonged to my dad).

Ooh, not sure about talking about what I paid. I was a little tentative about flexing them here as it was. Vulgar, some will say. I just like watches, is all.

It is a Panerai Azzurro, online limited edition only. I think they were £8900 or thereabouts. 500 worldwide but that was the last one on sale in the UK. Very hard piece to get. I paid much less for it, 2022 unworn but I worked the dealer a fair bit. It's nicer than any Rolex I've had.

Take a look at the Panerai Blu Notte. I had one and traded it immediately in a multi-watch deal because I needed to realise it's value. I regret it, fucking gorgeous watch. I'm a sucker for blue on a watch...quell surprise.
No worries mate, cheers

I had the explorer 11 polar dial but exchanged it with some cash to get the 'james Cameron deep-sea blue, beautiful piece which is now one of the picks of my collection

Re the Citizen, unless they've totally redesigned the watch then there isn't a changeable battery... The eco drive is charged by solar

Have you tried leaving the watch in the sun on a window ledge for a few days?
