Owning a nice watch

I sold my Omega Seamaster about 3 years ago to a pawn broker with a heavy heart as i needed to sort a debt out. I lost £200 on having paid 2 grand. What upset me most is the greedy twat put it in the window with a £3200 tag on.

I vowed I'd buy another when i could afford it and having cashed in a tax free sum from one of my pensions recently i was looking online and found a really nice watch at a good price. A 2006 model with box and paperwork that had just had a service, battery, gasket seal and clean and polish. Was up for £2500 on ebay so after checking them out on Trustpilot i emailed the shop and asked them to ring me to discuss. After a chat made them an offer of 2.2k but we settled amicably at £2295.

I don't wear jewellery and don't wear a watch everyday but when i do i wear a Casio Edifice which is a nice watch and good timekeeper. But when a special occasion crops up i feel good wearing my Seamaster. Understated elegance without any bling i think.

What model is it pal? I have the smp 300 "brosnan bond"
I've owned a few of these but always regretted selling them, so a couple of years ago I found the best one I could find, and bought it to keep. It's a gorgeous piece. The wavy dial is stunning, the bracelet is a work of art in itself.

This one.

This one.

Nice, mine's the auto version of that. Good ones (either version) are getting rarer by the year, people are holding on to them now.
Looking at the pics, its not been over polished, the definition is still there on the lugs. A lot get ruined by this. The strap retains its matt/ shiny contrast too, which again, means its been looked after. The bezel is possibly new, but its been installed correctly, the alignment is perfect.
A good buy I'd say.

Good purchase.
If i was rich i wouldn't buy a more expensive watch as I'm not into flashy watches but there's something about the Seamaster i really like but can't quite explain. No way will i be selling it. : )

It's a classic alright, I have a small collection, including a rolex submariner, but the smp is my favourite. Apart from my daily citizen, it's the least valuable, so it's not always about money. I love it.
Enjoy

Is there any point wearing expensive jewellery now just waiting to be robbed and maybe having your life put at risk. It's a shit show but is it worth it?
Watches aren't for me and without trying to be derogatory, neither is bling. I have close friends that like it and so they should. My best friend keeps a gold pen. State of the nation when you know you are going to be robbed for having something of value.

Are you conflating a nice watch with bling?
I can buy 5 nice in house period watches for 'less' than a pair of adidas ardwick Oi...is green suede the new bling?..

Intresting chap George ^..to say the least. Sometime in the early '90's his waiting list got past 12months with a minimum order of 250k.
I met him him one sunday morning by accident at a historic vehicle fair in Ebdon Bridge, nobody there had an earthly who he was. I had a wonderful complicated lot on my wrist ( the best of type to ever come out of switzerland) and he told me how you could modify the balance fairly easy to have it performing f1 tricks...an unassuming fella quietly advicing me how to supercharge probably the industrys greatest manual chronograph...on a sunday morning stood in between two old cars. Geezer

What tricks can a modified watch perform beyond telling the right time?

It’s amazing how some of the most interesting, and storied, people one ever meets are the most humble and unassuming in person.

Tell the time on par with a quartz watch (20 yrs before the japanese dreamt about em)..whilst operating a chronograph ( solely by manipulating metals)

*in the forties if your offering won the Swiss Time Trials you'd be that years grand prix winner and be very free to spout that all year on all paraphernalia.

**if you was a rear gunner with a 15 second slow watch on..you'd be going more than poorly.
