Owning a woodland

People don’t generally realise that deforestation created the moors in Britain. Those magnificent walks are a human creation. There was an attempt to reforest that moor just north of the A66. Not sure how it turned out. Norwegian spruce isn’t really forest, just plantation for profit. Harder wood needed for real British forest: oak, elm, ash, beech etc.
Sitka spruce, in particular, was introduced into the UK following the second world war to meet a timber shortage because it grows fast and big. However, it's now a bloody menace because it spreads like wildfire if not properly managed, drawing enormous amounts of moisture out of the ground and giving rise to depleted peatlands - necessary for carbon capture - in areas like the Peak District.
You're welcome.

I'm led to believe there is more ancient woodland in the UK than there is in the rest of europe combined, so yes, yes we do.

On a separate note, a guy I worked with 20 years ago was a bit.....odd. Then he smashed his kit car up and became even odder. Nice guy, just odd. He was in the process of buying a plot of woodland I think (if memory serves) in Wales with the intent of building a cabin there to live. No idea how that went as we lost touch, so there probably was little point in sharing this anecdote was there, sorry.
Good story, I am a bit odd, nice enough bloke but a bit odd, I am thinking of moving to a woodland in Wales but I dont have a kit car, will you be friends with me untill we lose touch?

I'm not sure about your claim for ancient woodland but the figures for overall forest as a proportion of land mass in the UK should be a source of national shame at just 13%. The average for continental Europe (excluding Russia) is 38%! We seem to be unique as a country in terms of our total disregard for the beauty that surrounds us.

Ohhhh no, my mother warned me about times like this

Yes I thought it a bit suspect when i heard it/read it (can't remember where) but I've never been one to let the truth spoil a good story

You have a point but:
—England is more heavily populated than Continental Europe
—We are planning several new forests.
