Pablo Maffeo

No Championship side is going to take Maffeo because of his lack of physicality, especially as a defender.

The lower leagues in general is so hard to to get right when it comes to loans.

I actually think NYCFC as an option for a first loan move for our youngsters is perfect because i think we will pretty much know they will get game time if they get picked to go.

With Vieira there as well he will know how to get the best out of him as I think as a small defender he could only get away with playing as a right back or a central defender in a back 3, in a back 2 he would get targeted.

I am very interested to see how Maffeo develops over the coming years because technically he is very good and in the tackle he is Zaba like, physically and maybe even height wise how he will adapt when playing men is going to be interesting.

Agree with your comments on the Championship, best bet is Ligue 1, Serie A etc.

I think he's got all the attributes to go far, but I don't think he's ready yet.

Due to join Girona on loan until the end of the season, apparently:

I'm quite happy with that - he's obviously ready for senior football, but I was worried that he'd be sent to NYCFC and Guardiola wouldn't get a look at him.

He'll play against proper teams down there, he's already comfortable in the country and with the language. Theoretically it should be a perfect fit.

I just hope they don't get fully caught up in a relegation battle and end up side-lining him.

A well reasoned post.No doubt many will believe it isnt a high enough level.......but i too think its a good move, our Championship is too unpredictable for my liking,he would probably only have achieved splinters

There was something a few months ago suggesting we were developing some kind of link with Girona FC. I think it was on a thread on here.

I've just seen on Wikipedia that there already seems to be some City youth loanees out there ?

We have a weird partnership with them.

Guardiola's brother headed a consortium which bought Girona last year.

Then this year we bought 2 no-name players from the second division in Spain and loaned them to Girona, along with Nwakali from the academy. It seems we hoped they'd be promoted this season with our help, and then we'd have a friendly club in la liga to make these kind of loan deals with.

Some people have said it was a backhander for Pep's brother, who is also his agent, but that's just speculation obviously.

Unfortunately they had a dreadful start to the season and aren't going to get promoted this year, they'll probably be happy to stay up.

I'd agree, and the technical quality of football will be better than in our championship.

Given the money involved in gaining promotion, its little wonder they won't take youngsters with little experience in the championship.

I'm surprised that the PL strugglers don't take a chance on some of our youngsters, but I guess that's the same reason too.

Owned by Pep's brother.
We signed their two best players then loaned them back straight away.

There's definitely a bit of the

to our relationship with Girona.

Had a look at how Girona were doing the other day out of interest, and they're only a couple of places above the relegation zone. Not sure that they'd risk throwing in a youngster from abroad when they're hovering over the trapdoor to the third division.

That Nigerian kid we loaned them has only made one appearance for them as well.
