Paedophilia within the game/City launch redress scheme

There are often 'silly rumours / dark humour and plain old teenage whispering about dodgy scout leaders, iffy teachers, flirty female leaders and slimy male leaders in youth organisations - and that's half the problem. MANY of those rumours are simply just untrue, which makes the relatively rare accurate accusation so harder to differentiate.

We can all wonder why rumours existed and yet nobody said anything, but I'm sure many will have overheard a buysnch of teenage boys talking about flirty teachers, or someone's mother - but we dismiss it as 'teenage boy chat'. When we hear about the older single male teacher being labelled as 'sad smelly Mr Smith', we do the same. So when it comes to 'pervy Mr Peters' that too often gets put down to silly rumour - and rightly so in MOST cases.
If every report of flirty female teachers, or creepy male teachers was reported, the system would grind to a halt, and some innocent people would forever be tainted.

It's terribly sad, but this fact of life helps to give the perpetrators a layer of protection.

Don Macintosh was one of my Sergeants as a 17 year old Police Cadet back in the mid 70's. I remember the absolute shock reading the MEN when he was convicted and sent to prison. I can fully understand why those kids would have been terrified of speaking out against him, he was, on the surface, one of the nicest blokes you could meet and I know that, as a group, all of the cadets at that time would have defended him without ever realising that we were simply too old to interest him. Further historical charges were brought against him after he was released and I believe he committed suicide on the back of that a couple of years ago.

He even got Ken Merritt, Utd' s assistant secretary at the time, to be a character witness.

Mr Mac - signed my passport!

All the people I heard rumours about as a kid - either at school or in the boys brigade all ended up getting ten years prison plus years later.

There was a geography teacher at my secondary school who was always taking photos in the showers(!). He also had a penchant for beating boys with a gym slipper after he'd made them change into shorts in front of him.Everyone talked about him but no one dared go to the school authorities. Years later I discovered plod had an encyclopaedic file on him but nothing he could be charged with.

I dug out an old team photograph this morning. It was taken at Cheadle before a Whitehill match. I would say we were 12 or 13. 1971 or 72.

Wondered if any other bluemooners were on it.
