Yeah, maybe the dots were joined by someone, but not by the right people. If anyone buried this, it was the FA, and probably a number of officials at a number of clubs. The evidence was there in the 1997 program, but it wasn't acted upon. Maybe this does go right to the top. Maybe the police did know. Maybe some of the involved move in mysterious circles.

Barry Bennel's power over these players was the perceived ability to make or break a career in football. It may be argued that when the players made it into their respective First Teams, his power over them was diminished.

I've just heard the news and he has been charged with 8 offences against a child under the age of 14. Too late though eh?

It's never too late, as professionals in the sector we need more data on such crimes, in fact my last 7 years have been dedicated to it... I can tell you now though, the dangling of the 'carrot' with regards to a potential career is suppressing the underlining issue... Acceptance....

Bennel is a classic predator in that he would isolate the individual, those in the extended relationship, mother, father, friends, would see a man going the extra mile, however, this becomes the norm for the abused, thus when his way of life is threatened with 'you'll hurt your family or 'I'll hurt your family', it's one in the same.... Fear!!

I'm no expert, but I'd imagine with his previous convictions he's now staring down the barrel of a very serious sentence.

This is his 3rd conviction is it not? Does the 3 strikes law still exist? I bloody well hope so and he can rot, but you know well the dirty little bastard will top himself but there will be a day of reckoning!

He'll be convicted sentenced using the sentencing rules at the time he committed the offence like Stuart Hall was, so it might not be as long as it probably should be.

Didn't they use specimen charges or something ,so I assume they must have more on record ,can they now use them ?

As more and more victims find the courage to come forward I expect many more clubs are going to be implicated.Very depressingly,the revelations so far,are possibly just the tip of an iceberg.

I'm not sure what your profession is mate? but I've read a few bits on here where you allude to working with peadophilia, again I'm not sure if that is on the frontline or via case studies etc? In your expert opinion- how big a thing is child abuse in today's society?

I ask because it seems like we never get to hear about the sheer size of the problem. Over the last few years we've had pretty much every walk of life implicated in what appears to be child abuse on an industrial scale.

It's called closure, suppressing it brings all manner of negatives which far outweigh the good it does for the that person to move forward...

If it transpired that City had actually paid money for people's silence regarding this issue, how would fellow blues feel about it? Personally, i don't think i could be a supporter of such a organisation any more. I've a feeling City are not going to come out of this well, I hope i'm wrong.
