Paedophilia within the game/City launch redress scheme

This is going back but I want to know the dates when Bennell was at City. I can only find reference to his time at both us and Crewe 1979-91. Does anyone know this or a source to look it up. Also, while I'm at it, why is it that City and Crewe are always linked in the media?

In answer to your last question first, Barry Bennell. That sounds trite but isn't meant to as it's the obvious answer.

This is our own review:-
6.7 Based on the evidence of various witnesses, the Review Team believes that Bennell had a form of association with MCFC in two distinct time periods. The circumstances surrounding this are discussed in more detail below. Exact dates are almost impossible to establish but in summary: 6.7.1 Period 1 - between summer 1975 (as above) and late 1979; and 6.7.2 Period 2 - between late 1981 and spring/summer 1984.

Also (presumably) in the full 710 page report.

At Football , at cub scouts, at school, at church, life was a minefield for young boys back in the 70s/80s. One good thing about the new woke PC world is that things are in place now to try to combat paedos and any complaints are now investigated rather than laughed at.

it certainly is a lot better, but still plenty to be done.

I mean punishment's in the UK for paedos is next to nothing

Did Bennell have a contract with MCFC,
Don't think so, it seemed to be more ad hoc where he'd bring a name to our attention and he'd (presumably) get remuneration for it. He doesn't appear to have ever been a coach for us as far as I can tell.

As he was never actually employed by the club I think our obligation is a moral one rather than a legal one.If it was legal the impartial press would demand we right historical wrongs with a 20 point deduction. (if we finish 19 points ahead of the squeaky clean rags)

Not the thread for the highlighted bit TBH.

Definitively a moral obligation (although reading Crewe's pitiful apology today you wouldn't think so), legally I'm not sure. The law has no doubt changed over the years and I couldn't even tell you what it is now. It is law that you should investigate and report all complaints nowadays I think. There is a lot of information in the link to City's investigation given earlier that covers that but it's not something I've looked at.

I knew who Bennelll was ,(at a distance fortunately) by playing youth football around 1975 way before any of the historic charges were mentioned I understood he had a connection with a team called Senrab which had Chelsea FC connection s never seen any mention of this , after a City home match me and about 6 mate's were waiting for a102 bus at Princess road bus stop back to town when he was in a black transit van with 2 lads passengers we jumped in the back and were dropped in town we would have been 14 / 15 year's old putting him about 20ish so close to evil he seemed a decent lad but I suppose that was all part of his act

I think the original documentary said he was like a scout for Crewe and City but not a direct employee. Whatever he was he is a monster. How one person can cause do much damage like him, Saville etc. I just think these days they would be found out earlier but we can't say it would never happen again. I am a qualified coach and over ten years ago safeguarding was a big part of the course.

I was at Crewe in the early 90s. Nothing here contradicts my recollections- there were plenty of rumours at the time, although as a local lad I never had cause to stay with Barry or Dario.
I had a trial with Crewe when I was 14 in 1988, went to Pwllheli with Benell and the squad, stayed at butlins for the week, done some training and played a couple of matches then we drove to his house in Derbyshire and stayed the night then went to Hull to play in a tournament.
Lads like Michael Jackson, Gareth Whalley, Simon Davies and Andy Woodward was amongst the team on trial but I think they just came along with Bennell as they played for Railway Juniors who was his Sunday team.
The only dodgy thing I witnessed was Bennell lay on the sofa with his head resting on some lads legs and the lad playing with his hair, which at the time struck me as odd but looking back it makes me feel a bit sick.
