Palestine Action

I see the Home Secretary has been babbling on about the crimes of Palestine Action but she still failed to identify any terrorist nature of their actions. Everything she mentioned can be dealt with via existing criminal law. Indeed one such CRIMINAL trial is just about to start. The proscription of PA has just given the gov an unnecessary problem, namely a large portion of the public not supporting it. Tactical error.

Not entirely on board with the headline except I echo its frustration. They ban I support Palestine Action on T Shirts - then arrest someone who wears one saying its time Action was taken over Palestine and now one for saying Plasticine Action calling for the end of AI animation and featuring a picture of Morph = I mean ffs I can see its pushing the envelope but its making a mockery of the law, the office of the Home Secretary and even the Police making arrests. These arrests cannot be going anywhere unless the CPS is willing to join in the self humiliation role. If it goes to court plead not guilty and opt for a jury trial this week shows you won't be convicted.

He's committed the cardinal sin of taking the piss out of those in power though. Right up there with Russian protesters holding up blank signs in Moscow at the start of the Ukraine invasion just to see how quickly they'd be arrested.

Is it a tactical error? Or does it mean that rather than having to talk about what the Israelis are doing, they can spend all of their time talking about how people are supporting a 'proscribed terrorist group?' How many times, since this decision, has Yvette Cooper had to actually voice her opinion on the actions of the Israeli government rather than the actions of a handful of protesters?

Her public statements now amount to "trust us, there's more to come but I can't comment on it" and "anyone supporting a proscribed group...blah, blah, blah." Shorts-sighted perhaps, but it basically changes the narrative entirely. Definitely creating problems for themselves though in the near future.

What next? Buying Sally Rooney's books will become a terrorist offence because she's vowed to support the group financially with her royalties? The BBC criminally charged for paying the royalties she's owed for their TV adaptions because she's expressed the intention to support PA?

He should get 20 years for wearing that. That Morph is a right ****, the way he treats Chas.

He was later de-arrested when the clown, sorry police constable had the sense to shut up and stop acting like a dick thereby allowing the bloke to tell him what his t shirt said.

My question is, surely that is wrongful arrest and the bloke should be entitled to compensation.

In theory. It depends. If he was arrested, then de-arrested five minutes later, it'd be hard to argue that you've suffered any harm that needs compensating. If you were arrested, spent the night in a cell, missed your kid's birthday party and lost out on a day's work, then you'd have more of a case.

Ok ignore monetary compensation, it is still wrongful arrest.
Unless we are now in a police state you cannot just nick somebody without 'reasonable suspicion' that an offence has been committed.
If the copper is too wound up, excitable and desperate to arrest someone perhaps he shouldn't be wearing a uniform.

Or indeed can't read.

The pattern is there and its unravelling as Zionism destroys things -

During the Gaza war, Duncan criticised Conservative Friends of Israel. Speaking on LBC in April 2024, he said that they had "been doing the bidding of Netanyahu, bypassing all proper processes of government to exercise undue influence at the top of government." Duncan added, "What you have is a lot of people now sitting around Rishi Sunak who are giving him appalling advice. Let's start with the head of CFI, who has been for many years Lord Polak. In my view, I think he should be removed from the Lords because he is exercising the interests of another country, not that of the parliament in which he sits, joined, I have to say, by Lord Pickles. They're the sort of the Laurel and Hardy who should be pushed out together." Polak, CFI's honorary president, is Jewish, while Pickles, the group's parliamentary chair, is not Jewish. The Jewish Leadership Council accused Duncan of sharing "antisemitic tropes", and the Board of Deputies of British Jews labelled his comments "disgraceful". The Conservative Party consequently began investigating him. On 16 July 2024, he was cleared of wrongdoing following an internal investigation. The Conservative Campaign Headquarters (CCHQ) investigation, which Duncan termed a "McCarthyite witch-hunt", found his comments were within political debate and not anti-semitic.

Interesting things in Scotland.

Some of those charged were being harassed by home visits by police. One guy was appealing against bail conditions that said he couldn't go into Glasgow city centre.

Human rights group warned police that the arrests could breach human rights legislation.

And now those arrested have had court dates and bail conditions cancelled.

I don’t know if it’s true the Ottoman Empire includes Palestine, they used to send food to Ireland during the famine ? and now Ireland sends food to Gaza

Yes it's true but I believe they had to reduce it due to British pressure so not to over shadow the queens contribution. Famously the Choctaw Nation also sent all they could despite their own dire situation

Ireland was a net exporter of food during the famine as it was controlled by the aristocrats. Those at the top had plenty, the rest nothing.

I would counter with police on the frontline have been put in a very difficult position with this farcical decision by the government IMO.

And reasonable suspicion is actually a v low bar to arrest someone.

This is Islamaphobic. Think about that you fucking racist
Islam is a belief system not a race. Islamaphoia as the late, great Christopher Hitchens once wrote " a word created by fascists, used by cowards to control morons".

Pointing out atrocities carried out by Muslims and inspired by the 7th century death cult faith they follow is a matter of fact whichever you look at it.

I feel sorry for the people of Gaza as they are being used as human collateral by the Hamas leadership and I can't condone the actions of the Israeli government either.

Interesting that the genocide of Christians in Nigeria by boko haram or the actions of the Saudis in Yemen goes relatively unreported in comparison to the situation in Gaza. Clearly certain genocide is more important than others!!
