Paris Saint-Germain (A) - CL | Post-Match Thread

Don't know if we can really split our efforts and go full pelt for the league and CL this season. Total commitment and focus with our form players against Chelsea and we only won with a deflection after two awful shots. Change a couple players and with a slight drop in intensity we're vulnerable. I'd play the rotation players with a couple youngsters in champions league and see where that gets us. Wouldn't be the worst thing even if we drop into Europa, we'd be heavy favorites and winning may give us the foothold and confidence we need in Europe.

Quite possibly the most ridiculous post of the year.

It would help, but most of the games we lose aren't actually settled by a reliable goalscorer. Obviously Son usually bags against us but Kane doesn't. Fernandes has one penalty against us (and his record against the other big sides is awful too). Liverpool's front three usually cause us problems but honestly the difference maker is usually not even a forward player.

Players that have scored against us in (fairly) recent big game losses include:
  • Idrissa Gueye
  • Kai Havertz
  • Hakim Ziyech x2
  • Marcos Alonso
  • Luke Shaw
Going back to 19/20 and you start seeing names like McTominay, Fabinho, Bergwijn, Matić, Cornet etc.

How come other teams manage to beat us without reliable goalscorers getting on the scoresheet?
I am more bothered about us having a reliable goalsctoer than the opposition mate. Btw Salah, Mane and Ronaldo have scored their share against us over the years.

People are chuckling at this post but the part in bold is a theory I've had recently. The only English teams to win the Champions League in the 2010s were Chelsea and Liverpool. And guess who won the Europa League or reached the final in that time? It didn't do Chelsea any damage to win it, it didn't cause Liverpool any problems when they reached the final. Of course United won it and reached the final and did fuck all in the Champions League in this time, but they're a rather special case since Ferguson left.

I saw the username and wondered why it wasn't reset my thoughts after each game if we happen to lose.

had we won this game you have to wonder if the post would have seen the light of day well perhaps not (LOL).

the bookies have got us 97 per cent to go through at this stage and that's good enough for me.

if we miss out on going through to the knock out stage it won't be because we changed markedly or tinkered with the side from matchday to matchday.

If we lose on Sunday the next post might be lets go full pelt for the domestic trophies and play our " back up side " in the league and remaining 4 Chumps League games.
