Paul Gascoigne - terrible waste

Anyone who didn't see this guy play in his prime has no idea how good he was.

Think about this at the age of 23 he outplayed the best midfielder in the world Lothar mathaus at the time.

At his best he combined the ability to control a game of a no 8. With the creativity and invention of a no 10.

If he was playing for man city today he would be head and shoulders above any city player.

Phil foden as great as he is is no where near as good.

If it wasn't for injuries and alcohol. Gazza could have been one of the greatest players of all time.
Why dont you just admit you are a spurs fan on the wum

I agree. He was phenomenal in his prime.
Yeah he fucked up but a read of his book and his documentary gives u an insight

The way most teams set up against us, it's not the ability to go past a player you need, it's the ability to go past multiple players. Gazza never played against such defensive formations as we endure almost every match.
To me, Foden will eventually prove far superior.

I’ve got no problem with Gazza really, my issue is how Foden is considered inferior. When Gazza was being called a fat **** by jack Charlton, Foden was winning the u17 World Cup. Foden was making Brewster look class. He’s then come on & taken his place in a world class team, winning & standing out he’s become undropable. Gazza was good but Ffs Foden is unbelievable.

For me, its not about being considered inferior. It's that Foden is just at the start of his career, and has plenty years to prove his worth. Let's see how his career pans out. They are different players anyway, & it's always difficult to compare players from different eras.

The thing that sets Gazza apart from most was that ability to change a game on his own. The ability to pick the ball up on the halfway line, dribble past a couple of players, pop off a 1-2 and slot the ball past the keeper. I've yet to see that replicated on a consistent basis by any other English player.

Does that make him better than any other player, no, would he fit seemlessly into a cog like Man City, probably not, but the maverick side of him is part of the reason why he was so loved.

Was never the same player after that Gary Charles injury. He lost that acceleration, and spring in his step, to take him away from players which gave him time and space to do things with the ball, which Foden also has in spades.
Before he even flew into the Charles tackle he should have been sent off or at the very least booked ...........he took someone out with a tackle that would have been an instant red today ......... sadly for him Milford the red bottled it and it cost him and the England football team big time

This. The game has changed, even the pitches are different. Gazza was of his time. I am confident Foden will be of his.
