I think Utd. are making a big mistake with this Pogba thing, but not the obvious one - the fact he was with them previously & the world record breaking fee...... If I may, I will try and explain.
The Premier League is so competitive these days, 2012 Ageuro and all that! Even last year, just one more point would have got them into the CL (at our expense!) Every minute of every game from 13.8.16 matters. Indeed, because of that, the pre-season games, especially the ones back in England, just before the season starts are important too.
Did Pogba play at Rooneys charity game tonight? 'No'. Will he play against Leicester on Sunday? 'Highly unlikely'. It is even questionable that if the transfer does go through later this week, that he will be ready for the 1st match (Bournemouth) on Saturday 13th August. Apparently he is on holiday until the 7th of this month!
Why did Utd. not put it to the agent and the player, that to make the transfer go through smoothly he should take a shorter break - say finishing at the end of July? In that way he could have played in a couple of pre-season games and been ready to start, when the season is scheduled to begin. I guess the fact they didn't, just shows how desperate they have become.
Imagine if a Pogba-less MUFC only scrape a draw against Bournemouth - who should be given a three goal head-start by-the-way, to make up for that bomb scare thing at the end of last season! Furthermore, imagine if you will, that he does Ok for most of the rest of the season, but those two dropped points cost them 4th in May 2017. He would then, as an individual, (as would the team), be looking at 2 years of no Champions League football - all because he was so selfish & he had to have his 2 weeks in America. It sums up what most people think, he is just a mercenary with no real affinity to the club that nurtured him, some might go further and call him a selfish cnut!
P.S. The funny thing is, they made a similar error in August 2014, buying Rojo - who then never actually appeared for about a month, 'legal issues' in South America iirc. I hope Pogba is as good as Rojo by-the-way, too!
Oops - whilst composing this message KCblue has basically said the same thing, in less words - Sorry, I'm a slow typist!
