I can't wait and personally I don't mind you strengthening as much as other blues seem to, in the sense that it was going to happen sooner or later, and you guys being in the mix will make next season all the more enjoyable....

.....you rag twat ;-)

I dont mind it and assumed they would strengthen. To be honest I dont think they have.

Ibra has looked absolutely awful for the past 6 months, flopping in champs league and in the euros, getting marked out of games by first division players(Ireland's centre halves for starters).

Mhkytarian could be amazing, or could be a system player who looked great surrounded by Aubameyang, Gundogan etc. Time will tell on him.

Bailly is a good aquistion but I think they will actually be okay at CB and didnt need him. Smalling and Jones in a Jose system with a decent cleaner in front of them should be decent enough.

What they really needed was an engine in the middle, and Pogba is not that. He's someone that a box to box player feeds to.

I dont expect this to be the end of their business(and still believe it wont happen) but if this is all they get, it'll be a long slog for them until Jan when they can hit the market again.

It's not so much the fee relative to the player himself that is entertaining, he's a good player who will improve their team. For me, it's more the giant flashing neon sign that now hangs over the club that says; "look at us, we'll now pay top money for the soiled management goods no other club will employ; we'll now pay top money for narcissistic, past-it, fading stars no top club would touch with a barge pole and we now have to offer world record fees and wages to even remotely attract good young players to join our club" - The message shines so brightly no amount of media spin can ever disguise it again. The myths die before our very eyes. It's beautiful.

They would have signed 2 players who's names sell shirts

Had it with a rag earlier who stated he would be a great signing, I said for who the kit suppliers or Juve

Will he though?

I agree, it puts a better player in their team, but does it improve their team? That remains to be seen.

Factor in he has pretty much identical stats to Mata btw.

Comparing him to Sane & Stones is good. Why, because we are buying 2 players to improve our team. Buying for positions we need to buy in. We'll have re-sale value on TWO players. If one hits the heights people think they will, we're okay. We've effectively split our risk where United have gone all in on one player.

Even if Pogba hits the goals and assists, he'll never be Ronaldo 2.0. He just isnt that marketable. He'll never be in that bracket due to his style of play. Same reason Yaya never was, or Vieira or Lampard or Iniesta or Roy Keane for that matter. He just doesnt have that certain type of speed and skill that is marketable like that. (Thats not to claim he'll never be as effective so dont confuse the two when I say that).

Every team is at risk every year when it comes to champs league, as we ourselves found out this year thanks to our muppet of a manager. But United will have 3 300K a week players on their books. No other team has one to my knowledge. So our risk is slightly more measured.

Pogba will improve their midfield yes. The whole team? A sole player hardly ever other than lifting the spirit within the team. Footbaal is still very much a teamsport as Leicester proved in extreem.

I don't like to talk re-sale value for any of our players. It's been widely discussed on here that we seem not able to get rid of any of our players.

Vieira and Keane? Other period of time and the latter the most ugly face you can come up with. Lampard and Iniesta? Totally different characters hence why the latter never won the golden ball. Yaya plays for City, so no chance. If you look around travelling through Europe Pogba is on a lot of posters, bollboards, advertisements etc. His look makes him perfect for commercial reasons. And in a way Ibrahimovitch is as well. Pogba can fail but he can easily be another popular player that will be the headline wherever he goes.

As for Pellegrini a muppet of a manager, I'm happy to give the man the respect he deserves. He never did anything to name him a muppet of treat him with disrespect. I know, fans are fans and I've been around long enough to know we have some one braincell fans among us as well. Unfortunately.

The whole "selling kits argument" is lost on me.

If you sold 20m kits last year, and this year the same 20m bought a new kit but 19m had "Pogba" on the back. Nothing has been gained, and yet it's easy to get dragged into the thinking that Pogba is selling loads of shirts and so he's worth the money. He's not selling loads of shirts, he's just the top pick of name on the back for people who would have bought a shirt anyway. The real question is how many people would buy a shirt with Pogba on the back who would have otherwise not bought a kit at all. Do people really buy a kit for the name, seems an afterthought to me.

Maybe not in UK but in Asia yes people follow teams just because of certain players and kit deals tie in with exposure which all clubs desire

Especially if they're charging by the letter. The Ibrahimovic and Mkhitaryan signings are more understandable.

I still think Real will come in at the last minute and take him and thats exactly the plan in the Pogba camp.

They sell about 3 million shirts a year but they don't get the money for those. Adidas pay them for the rights to produce the kit and they're not going to pay a fortune and let the club keep all the sales revenue as well.

I bet the club retain no more than £10 a shirt. They'd need to sell 2m additional shirts a year, every year to pay for Pogba.

Exactly this.

And yet it hardly seems to be getting mentioned, even on here.

We would be an absolute laughing stock and ripped to shreds by the media if we'd let someone go on a free then bought him back for £100m!

Don't let the rags get away without any abuse. Anyone on social media like Facebook, TAG A RAG who you know took the piss out of our spending when we had to quickly get to the top table. All those pricks whose only argument was sugar daddy, oil money, City ruining football etc give it them back in spades - once the £100m transfer PLUS £20m agent's fee PLUS £220,000 PER WEEK NET wages has been confirmed. Use the term HYPOCRITE too.

I'm not sure about that, but Zidane's comments the other day were interesting - he was hardly ruling out them making a move and it would be odd for him to talk like that if Pogba had already decided to join United, which is what all the media sources would have us believe.

In any case, as much as I'd sooner him not sign for them I've pretty much got my head round him going there now so I won't be too disappointed if it does indeed happen. As GDM said, they weren't going to be making a mess of things forever and it's not like we're in too shabby a position. Bring it on.

All I ever wanted was for us to be at the top table again; whoever we have to share it with.

They will probably announce the signing right after we announce Stones and/or Sane, trying to steal our thunder.

Not that I doubt it will be done, it's a hilarious drama

Very clever ramping up the hype to the max. Just like when he tweeted 'no deal done lots of bla, bla, bla' days before Adidas rolled out their new ad campaign with the same slogan.
