Pay to listen to Corbyn speak

There you go again Wolfie, putting words into my mouth.

I'm going to sort of agree with you here for a bit because yes, under our current society structure, a lot of groups are under represented which has led to women only lists and the Rooney Rule in football. You could argue that the best person for the job should get the job irrespective of their race, colour or creed and that these schemes are nothing but paying lip service to equality and what we should be targeting is the youth, to give them the skills to reach their goals, no matter who they are, but I am digressing here a bit Wolfie.

Where you are failing to open your eyes on this is issue is that equality for all shouldn't be at the expense of anyone else and so the easiest way to get more BAME into an event like this would have been to offer a lower price to everyone. That way EVERYONE has the opportunity to watch the twat live.

And what a wonderful world that would be Wolfie. Just imagine it. A full auditorium. Packed to the Gunnels. Waiting with baited breath. Suddenly the lights dim, is it him? Can it really be MR C in the flesh, Oh my days. Suddenly the lights illuminate the stage as JC strides out, waving and smiling at the ecstatic throng. After a few moments of adulation silence settles over the whole building, waiting as one, black, white, asian, different persuasions, all here for a common goal, to see JC orate to a mass crowd. He looks up, his shoulders, tense from the walk on, settle down and he begins.

10 minutes later, in a wet and windy East Midlands town, 400 people are streaming out of the building, wondering what all the fuss was about and proclaiming as one, who the fuck would pay more than a tenner to see that twat on stage.

Haha. As much as I genuinely like Corbyn this was pretty funny

How can it be equality of opportunity when one group has to pay more to attend than another? If they truly wanted it to equality of opportunity then the event would be free or minimal amount like £5 per head for everyone.

To me it seems more like a case of identity politics and an engineered equality of outcome.

You don't understand equality of opportunity mate, it doesn't mean the same for all. To allow access to all one must realise that not all people have equal access and you tailor your offer accordingly.

As it’s a fund raiser wouldn’t reducing the price for everyone be defeating the point of the event?

I also look forward to the next thread with everyone losing their minds at Ms May guesting at a fund raiser. Should be a hoot.

In your pathetic attempt at humour you seem to forget this is a fund raising event as well as a political rally.

What you're failing to understand, no I'll rephrase that, what you understand but refuse to acknowledge, is that "equality for all shouldn't be at the expense of anyone else" is a nonsense, it's always at someone's expense. the pricing at this rally is a minor nod in the direction of equality of opportunity, that means groups who might not normally attend a political rally, or for that matter get a university place or a football managers job or a winnable constituency get preferential treatment, why? Because differences in society favour some groups over others and if one is committed to equality of opportunity then the goal posts must change.

In those circumstances someone always loses out and that someone is a member of the group that normally gets that university place, that football managers job or normally attends a political rally. In life there are often a finite number of desirable things and left to their own devices privileged groups snaffle them up for their own, you seem the sort who's happy with that, that's okay, might I suggest you stay at home and watch a box set of Love Thy Neighbour as you seem to have a fetish for 70's sitcoms.

Has it not occurred to anyone in here that at a fund raising event like this the price reduction is a means of encouraging black and ethnic minorities to attend as they are under represented in all the main political parties?

Quoted in the article a Labour spokesman said: ‘The basic price of a conference pass is the same for all members but, at the request of our East Midlands Regional Board, the party will subsidise part of the cost of this year’s conference pass for BAME members to encourage attendance and improve representation.’

Is the above not more plausible than....

Conservative vice-chairman James Cleverly said: ‘Discriminating against people based on the colour of their skin is totally wrong and Mr Corbyn must end this practice now.’

Leicestershire Conservative MP Andrew Bridgen added: ‘This is racism. In effect, Labour is levying a tax on the basis of the colour of a person’s skin. It shows their contempt for the white working class.’
Nice try fumble. You're a devout follower of his tripe, I'll give you that.

Jesus mate if you want to trade party leaders whisked into a place with no idea whats going on then rushed out again with no contact with the audience nor the people I'd suggest you look at the Tories last campaign. May and supporters bussed into out of town locations speaking only to a few supporters waving placards then rushed out again - and that was her bidding to increase her majority as PM not speak in a meeting to activists

Stop with the nonsense whataboutism.

I think May and the current story leadership are useless.

If it's to do with equality, why haven't they means tested to generate an entrance fee. Not all of their white attendees will be worse off than all of their BAME attendees.

Sorry that's utter bollocks. Why doesn't it mean the same for all?

So on the basis that BAME members need to be subsidized in order for them to attend, that seems to be making an assumption that they all haven't the got the rights to equal access due to them not being able to afford the costs. Inherant in that assumption is that BAME members have less money than non-BAME members. Can you not see the racist connatations underlying that?

If this isn't the case, then other conclusions that can drawn is that BAME members aren't attending due to choice & freewill, as there doesn't seem to be any other restrictions in place just for them stopping them from attending.

As has been said numerous times if cost was zero or a minimal amount then everyone would have equal access and opportunity to attend, and while at the event they could all give amounts based on their ability to contribute and not based on their skin colour.
