Penalty Taker

Who should take penalties if Haaland is not on the pitch?

I was surprised that Aguero wasn’t introduced as a 93rd min sub to take a penalty. Perhaps Pep was auditioning replacements

A lot of people say Gundogan but I really don't like his technique. How often has he hit it to the keepers left with that angled run up?

Kun will keep taking them, after that it's Kev or Gab for me.

Gundogan
Foden
Zinchenko
Gabby
Bernardo

all seem competent. Throw in KDB and between that six we should have a couple on the field at any one time. Raz, Kun and Mahrez need to practice but with their abilities should be good penalty takers. When you think about it, all of our players have the ability to pass the ball. Its just a question of passing the ball into the net, they should all be competent.

At this level they can’t just rely on passing the ball into the net, they have to be able to beat the keeper. Which means that they need to be able to employ a range of penalty kicks.

last time I watched them, most players seem to have a range of passes ;-)

Aguero misses too many. Sorry to say enough is enough. Bernardo should take them for me. They are drilled in fast into the corners.

But a simple pass into the net isn’t enough.

I just think it’s easy to underestimate how much better keepers have become at saving pens over the last 20 years. They’re generally a bit bigger and more agile. And they do a lot more homework on the penalty taker they’re facing. So penalty takers have to take more risk to beat them.

I think a penalty taker with a 70% success rate today is probably striking the ball as well as a penalty taker with an 80% success rate 20 years ago.
