Penalty Taker

Who should take penalties if Haaland is not on the pitch?

As others have mentioned, Yaya is far and away our best penalty taker, based on his impressive record for us. He has bith the technique and, very importantly, the cojones for the job. However, even if special teams were part of the game, Yaya would not be on the bench at this point.

Aguero should not be taking them: he has missed too many. Although, I do admire the fact that he has not, so far, shied away from taking them.

Gundogan, Nacho and Dinho are suggestions that might be good options.

KDB one would expect better of but he made a cardinal error yesterday by changing his mind.

My left field option would be Otamendi, who I think might at least hit the ball so hard that the pace would beat most keepers so long as the placement was reasonably good. Of course the same should apply to Kolarov but he has form for missing from the spot.

Slightly of thread.

I've said for years that the player who gets awarded the penalty, should be the player who takes the penalty. This would be interesting if the FA ever changed the rules.

Take Sagna for example, a fairly regular in the team, yet he's never scored for us as yet. He goes down in the box to then let our(arguably) best pen taker Aguero score a goal(that he hasn't earned) that he will score on most occasions. To me that isn't fair, should be the player who gets awarded the penalty taking the penalty.

But that is just my opinion of course.

It's a good idea, unless the person fouled has to go off injured, then what ? Like I say good idea but.......nexxxxttttttttt

Agüero is and should be our penalty taker, he's just missed a few just like Messi and CRonaldo have in the last year but they, and Kun, will continue to be the penalty takers like they all should be

They both over thought them, decide, aim for the corner high or low but not at goalkeeper level and boot it hard,i'll do it for 2 quid and a mars bar

Both YaYa and Balo have the best records in recent years with 100% records for City - YaYa 12/12 and Balo 8/8. Balotelli has gone to pot relatively in recent times and has missed 4 from his last 11 penalties.

Nacho worth a try if he is on the pitch but personally I'd stick with Aguero. Obviously he is going through a horrible patch at the moment and even then in the Premier League he is at 12 from 15 in the last 3 seasons. He will be ridiculously determined to get it right and scoring from penalties is probably more important to him as a striker than any other player on the pitch (Nacho excluded) as goals breeed more goals. Keep the faith I say.

Some other players:

Nolito 6/8
Dinho 10/16
KDB 2/3
Kola 4/6
Silva 2/3
Gundogan 2/2

Bravo. Sterling, Otta, Sane, Sagna and Stones haven't taken 1 in their careers

No pracise will ever be able to come close to replicating a real life situation. My guess would be Aguero and Kdb bang them in without a seconds thought on the training ground. I bet even Clichy whacks them in for fun.
The one thing I would say is learning how to keep the ball low. From 12 yards, hit correctly a goalkeeper struggles to get down whereas anything 4/5 foot in the air is a gift from the gods.
As soon as the penalty was given I said Kev should take it because he's the best striker of the ball on the pitch. He's since come out and said he changed his mind in the run up. That's why practising them is a pointles exercise.
Fucking hell Pablo, you sound like some dinosaur of an ex pro. You can't recreate the pressure of the situation but actually it is in the pressure situation that the practise particularly pays off. It has been totally proven that when humans are trying to do something under stress they perform significantly better if they have practised before hand.

Just seen a quote from Pep yesterday. "We don't pracise penaltys, at training there is nobody there, no pressure"

I agree.
I am hugely disappointed to read this post. Pep is so utterly utterly wrong in this particular instance that it is a bit disturbing.
