People clapping for Joey B

I neither booed him or clapped him.

People make mistakes, although most not as many as Mr Barton. On the pitch he was a leader and played a huge part in keeping us up and the derby win.

Although, as a man i just don't respect him. After all the support and chances we gave him, he just threw it back in our faces.

So i chose not to gloryfy him with cheers or booes.

I was much more focused on supporting my team.

See what nearly 40 years of watching shit football does......it makes fans appreciate a player with very little technique and ability all because "he puts a shift in and plays for the shirt"!!

Spot on ! Can we all aim a little higher now please.

Some bloke sat near us (234) made a point of standing up to clap Barton and also made a point of looking round to everyone else wondering why they were either not clapping or in the case of a lot of us booing him...

Then with about 3 minutes of normal time left, so 8 minutes before the final whistle, this guy got up and left... I heard him saying to himself and anybody that would listen "I'm going, my nerves can't stand this anymore!"???

WTF?

So, he stood and clapped Barton but couldn't stay and applaud the current players at the end?

What a cock!

OK Barton was a Blue once, and yes he did play a key part in some games but at crucial times he lost it and cost us more than he gave us... IMO.

He was over-rated (by himself mainly), over-aggressive (in games and training apparently) and over-priced when he left...

Fuck Barton, fuck Newcastle and fuck dick-heads who stood and applauded him!

i clapped, under the crap we were watching under pearce he was the only player who showed passion and pride for the shirt, and is doing the same at newcastle aswell. and i will clap him again when he comes back next year

Agreed.

He's obviously a completely unlikeable individual but to be honest I don't give a fuck, he gave his all for us, always come over to the fans at away games (a bit too much really) and showed he wanted to win.
Dragged us through some games. Do we remember how bad it was in that season under Pearce?

Mpenza kept us up under Pearce not Barton!

Fair point re Mpenza .
At the end of that season he was very important - I'll never forget those 2 consecutive away games at Boro and Newcastle - thought we were done for going into those 2, we had 30 points before that.
In fact Mpenza and Distin at Boro worth a mention. Remember Distin celebrating his goal at Boro, he was a good lad for us as well - and I don't boo him either when he comes back.
I just don't get booing ex players who had decent times for us.

Isn't football a game of opinions? I clapped Joey but wouldn't have a go at anyone who booed him, i knew people that booed dickov when he came back with leicester- i didn't. The team under pearce were in a bad way and Joey was right when he said only him, Dunnie and Distin could look themselves in the eye.

The time was right when he left, we had Johnno(!!) a much improved model of joey( so we thought) and we got £5.5m for him. Anyone who knows the inside story of the tandy-joey incident will know it's not one sided as Tandy would like us to believe, and Dabo incident while a disgrace came about because he wasn't trying in training and thus not playing-a mercenary in other words. We expect Players to show us loyalty but boo them anyway when they come back after moving on, let's face it when Dunnie goes( and he will) he'll be booed but not by me.

Oh no he won't!

Chalk v Cheese

He left his foot in on Joe Hart in the 2nd half and looked to connect his knee with Hart's head. How people cant understand why he was booed is beyond me. The guy is an animal, that will never change.

Hear hear.

An awful lot of people forgetting his commitment on the pitch for us; he's done bad things off the pitch BUT he's also been punished for it, both financially and in jail time; is that punishment meant to go on forever? Ludicrously vindictive, if so.

I neither booed nor applauded, but I thought the hostility directed towards him was unfair. His response – to applaud everyone – made me chuckle.

What players do off the pitch is their own business, not ours. As long as they perform on the pitch then that's good enough for me, and Joey did enough on the pitch for us to earn the right to not be booed by us. I think the transfer request and loyalty bonus issues were orchestrated by Scum McKay, rather than Joey.

Some people have accused him of having no respect for us Blues, but when he was serving his stretch and went into Strangeways he was granted a request. That request was for him to be put in a cell with a Blue (so I’m lead to believe). In my mind that illustrates respect and affinity for us.

For those who booed him because they think he is a less than desirable person off the pitch; are you also going to boo Craig Bellamy if & when he returns to play at CoMS with another team? If so, don’t be hypocrites - just start booing him now.
