Being this dominant against a top 5 team in Europe with Sterling, Zinchenko and Mahrez as our biggest offensive threats says it all.

Read the club statement : https://www.worldsoccer.com/news/manchester-city-confirm-pep-guardiola-appointment-368127
That’s not how I read it. They’ve deliberately stated 2012 and deliberately used “curtailed” as well as “negotiations”. Why would they do that in a statement? You can interpret in different ways I concur but to me it’s clear, especially given other information doing the rounds at the time. The mystery of course is why did he not join in 2013 after his year off?OK, I've read it. How is that supposed to prove that Pep was ready to come to us in 2012? All it suggests is that we started to prepare the ground for his eventual recruitment at that stage.
Must admit, I read that similar to you DD rather than the way Petrusha read it, purely on the grounds it just seems a bit more concrete rather than some ambiguous, wishy washy comment ?That’s not how I read it. Wasn’t the Bayern offer 2013 after he’d had a year off? That would have seemed to be the logical point to join us but maybe City couldn’t commit until season end and he wanted a bird in the hand. Pelegríni certainly confirmed that he always knew that Pep would be the next City manager so it seems to me obvious that a gentlemen’s agreement had been reached in 2013. I believe that agreement was made in spring 2012 when the title was all but gone and ripped up at season end when the club knew they couldn’t sack a manager who’d just won the title. That’s when there were contract disputes with Mancini and I believe that might have been because City protected themselves with escape clauses.Must admit, I read that similar to you DD rather than the way Petrusha read it, purely on the grounds it just seems a bit more concrete rather than some ambiguous, wishy washy comment ?
I could be way out here, but where does that stand time-wise to the Bayern offer ? Maybe that took his fancy more at that time ?

It would seem a logical point mate agreed, but I also think, maybe, the bit I've highlighted in Petrusha's post below actually has a great deal of credence, maybe Pep just thought everything was in its infancy with us at that time, we were "too young" for him to come in with his ideals etc ?Wasn’t the Bayern offer 2013 after he’d had a year off? Whatever the truth of it, I'm glad now that we didn't get him in 2012 or 2013. I think we were much better set up for him in 2016 after Soriano and Begiristain had created a structure and culture within the club that was pretty ideal for Pep to come in and prosper, though it still took him a year before he'd sorted the squad out. I thought it was obvious even in that first season that he was building something pretty special here, but there were a lot of ill-advised posts on here complaining about him and his style of football (too much passing it around with no end product being a common theme).
His sabbatical in 2012 and 2013 is covered in the book by Pol Ballus (I think) about his first year at Bayern. He certainly indicates that Txiki was very disappointed and somewhat stunned that Pep took the job in Munich. I recall that the announcement about Pep going there was made much earlier - December 2012, IIRC - and maybe he wanted everything sorted and out in the open, as Bayern were prepared to do. With us, he'd have had to wait because, unlike Pellegrini, I couldn't imagine Mancini hanging on for months with his departure and successor already announced (though I think he knew he'd probably be replaced fairly soon).
