I thought he looked quite lonely last night. Arteta was constantly stood in the coaching area with his assistant talking with him. At every break in play they had the players around them in a huddle coaching them. Only once was Pep joined by any member of his coaching staff.

We have just beaten the allegedly best team in England mate. We have been disrupted by injury and lack of individual form following the world cup as well as learning to play with the best striker in the world rather than a false 9.

'Negative and rudderless'? You are better than that.

I'm better?

Its not me we are talking about.....that was what i have been watching the last few games,i'm not sure what you are seeing that is different?

We are on very different pages.

Our football is dreadful, its a million miles from the brilliance we have come to expect, and while some that may have spoiled me/us.....we should not be playing this backwards/sideways/negative shite.

That first half last night, against an Arsenal B team, was fucking painful.

Yeah we wasn’t great but bottom line in cup games is to win! Hopefully we get a lower league team next round not Liverpool or rags!

do you mean the planned stoppage 10 minutes into second half ( keeper injured ha ha )
lets see how city come out in second half and ten minutes in we'll have team talk the old southampton plan on 60 minutes

In the 2nd half he made the right changes to balance the team and enable us to grab the initiative. Even then the team is a shadow of a couple of years ago in terms of fluidity and dynamism. His first half line up didn't work and would get us knocked out in the next round against a full strength opponent.

I agree, the win was the important bit,but our poor football cannot be ignored.

Yeah just thing it’s combination of a lot of thing why all season we ain’t been on it and any over manager would have there team where the scousers are in the league and a game like last night would of been knocked out! It’s a Transitional season for me but we seem to not be allowed to have one!?

Its on an odd season, unique even....but,given the summer signings,i didnt expect it to be another transitional....however,due to the quicker and surprise demise of our two main playmakers, the discontentment in the camp, and Pep's odd tactics, perhaps that is exactly what it has become.

I'm not enjoying watching us play this season, and I've never felt that before. Pep has gotten more conservative in his selections this year, and as much as he has tried to say its the players fault, I think it's his and his fear of loss of control with 9's instead of a false 9, which has caused him to tear up an effective way of doing things and fumble around for something that can replicate the false 9 style without that extra body. He hasn't found it, and quite a lot of the time we are boring to watch this season as a consequence and weirdly more defensively vulnerable.

Even the best managers get stuck on a bad idea, and I think that's whats happening. there is also a clear jaded nature to some of our longer serving players who perhaps keeping against their will has finally backfired.

Good post, although i'm not sure we are keeping anyone against their will.

Haaland a great buy Gomes not good enough Philips is the one where am disappointed thought he be a good buy he may well still be, at Leeds he had that shoulder problem all the time he had been there never had the operation, come to city got injured then his shoulder went again, had the operation, went to World Cup never played went on holiday for 10 days where he put nearly half stone on left out for being a fat git;) starter one game was average, won’t be starting any game soon!

Controlled skilful football mostly mate. Not as attractive as some versions of us but still a work in progress. You talk about them like they are the Pearce team. The Crab badge ffs?

I can only disagree.

Our football is atrocious in comparison to previous seasons, the pass of choice is sideways or backwards, its tedious and negative and doesnt compliment our strengths.

Surely you cant be entertained watching the bulk of our games at present? last night would have been switched over had it been any other team,it was fucking awful in that first half.

The crab badge was a lighthearted nod to what is being produced.

It is a work in progress as we change style a bit, next season will see a different midfield too. However unlike the vast majority of great teams we are making those changes while still being competitive. Also we are still playing some good football maybe not quite as fluent as recent seasons
If any fans that aren’t patient enough to let Pep make those adjustments his way are IMO fools.

Seems like he has massively lost his way.

He doesnt know his best 11 or the best system, and individuals are struggling. Its no wonder the rumours of discontent are circulating,i cant imagine some are happy playing such negative and rudderless football.
Do you even watch football, lol

Not as entertained as most seasons under Pep but recognise it for what it is. We are still learning to play with Haaland. It’s a fundamental change and it’s still not what it should be. On top of that the WC has disrupted and we have some players suffering a form dip. It’s not atrocious though in my view and Pep sure as shit hasn’t ‘lost his way’. I thought we did really well last night especially in the second half.
Cheer up mate, we ain’t quite at the Everton stage yet…..
Oh shit, we dropped points to them. Maybe we are. ;-)

Honestly buddy, while the second half improved, with changes predominantly, the first half bored me fucking senseless with the negative, shapeless and uninventive play.

He should definitely be onto a solution to what gets the best out of our squad by this stage of the season, yet he seems to prefer the definition of madness approach.

It’s clear this is one of those ‘transitional’ seasons teams have on occasion when the old guard are being phased out, and a new team is in the process of being built.

This has clearly disrupted/damaged our team morale, with players not knowing whether they’re part of the future or not - and the squad is starting to fracture. Players aren’t showing up as professionally in training, and don’t have the drive and team spirit of previous seasons.

In this context, I’d say Pep is doing a pretty incredible job keeping us in touching distance in the League, and winning games when he clearly can’t select certain players who seemingly are fit - but aren’t in the right headspace to play.

The Rags have been ‘transitioning’ for the last 10 years, and have been laughably shit pretty much the whole time. When Klopp has a transitional season, the Cult end up miles away from competing.

It’s a mark of Pep that, despite all the shit going on behind the scenes, we’re still putting serious pressure on an Arsenal side that’s having a frankly astonishing season by anyone’s measure.

We’re lucky to have him!

The next manager after him will have an easier job too, having an already built team just for him to tweak for personal preferences. No need to be a transitional manager early on his career at City.

No doubt, we are lucky to have Pep. But I hope the season won't be transitional.

It will suck if the season is transitional. I mean, the age profile of the team is great, most players are in their prime and several huge talents (Haaland, Foden, Alvarez) are before their prime. Last season, we knew that Bernardo wanted to leave, but it didn't harm the team morale. Also, the other teams bar Arsenal aren't in great condition this season. Arsenal are doing fantastic right now, but their squad depth is nowhere near ours, and it would sting to lose a title race against such an inexperienced team. How many Arsenal players would be guaranteed starters at City? Saka and maybe Saliba?

If Cancelo (or other players) are the problem, loan him (them) out. If he isn't a (big) problem, play him into form.

I'm afraid our problems this season are partly self-inflicted by avoidable personal conflicts.

I still hope that the season won't be transitional and that we are going to win the PL and/or the CL. Sit down with the players and resolve the personal conflicts. Or loan the players who create problems. It's probably more complicated than that, but something needs to be done to improve team morale.
