Who am I to criticise the great one BUT I do think he's guilty of muddled tthinking over recent weeks. If he'd managed the squad better and not gone with such a strong side v Spurs then these last two defeats could have been avoided.

Stones and Dias should not have played at all against Spurs. When Akanji got injured in the warmup THAT was the time to throw the kid in not tonight. Playing him tonight was lamb to the slaughter stuff and will damage his confidence for a while. It was crazy management He's quite obviously nowhere near ready for the CL. I doubt we'll be seeing Jamal again this season.

If Walker hasn't trained for so long it made no sense to start him at the weekend and it's no coincidence both goals came down his side. Surely the better option would be to let him have a few more days training and start him tonight?

Even taking into account the injuries he's managed the squad poorly over recent weeks. No wonder the players are a bit pissed off with him.
Yeah Pep is the greatest but he sometimes makes decisions that leave you scratching your head, that Spurs game was just bizarre.

I would suggest that him defending how we played in the post match press conference is completely different to what he'll be saying in the dressing room to be fair mate.

I always remember the Amazon documentary where he says "I'll defend you until the last day of our lives in the press conference, but in here I'll tell you the truth."

I imagine he'll have absolutely laid into them.

I do worry whether he'll change it or whether he'll double down and go for even more control.
That's my hope too but don't really see the need to try and defend a shitshow when we get thumped. No reason why he cannot take responsibility for the poor setup instead of claiming things we all know is not true.

I don't think he should be laying into anybody after that, it's his instructions they're carrying out. arguably, and under the appropriate circumstances, the senior players should be laying into him for that.

Can't see how anything changes for the weekend, best we can hope for is after the internationals.

The 316 with thise depleted personnel is nuts.

Even with Rodri its a big ask.

Back to the 3241. Get Gvardiol learning the Stones role.

Back to what works. Solidity.

Remember Southampton away in the treble season?!

He was quite calm in the post match interview but it was almost frightening in the changing rooms. Players wouldn’t even look at each other while he was talking. We only got to see that 10 months later when the documentary came out.

If he'd managed the squad better and not gone with such a strong side v Spurs then these last two defeats in much more important games could have been avoided.

Stones and Dias should not have played at all against Spurs. When Akanji got injured in the warmup THAT was the time to throw the kid in not tonight. Playing him tonight was lamb to the slaughter stuff and will damage his confidence for a while. It was crazy kamikaze management. He's quite obviously nowhere near ready for the CL. I doubt we'll be seeing Jamal again this season.

I got a shed load of push back when I said in the spurs prematch thread it was a stupid lineup for that game, I was over reacting apparently. I said it precisely for the reasons we've seen this week and what you've just said.

We need athleticism and physicality in the midfield. He's raw but the only player who I see that can do that on the roster is Nico O'Reilly. I would roll with him in a double pivot.

Defensively, team was all over the place but the void of a midfield presence played a big part. No leaders in the back 4 against Sporting

Pep has proven he can get it right. I think he will. Right now we're just playing like shit but even in this spell there has been promise.

We've had bad patches before.
In fact, our front half of the season is often patchy and we come good in the new year.
Where we're we this time last year? Wasn't we 5th or 6th?
Same the year before.

It will all come good in the end.

Back the man, he knows better than anyone that we need to improve... And we will.

This season is a combination of pep getting everything wrong , the worst injury crisis in a decade and a board that wanted to keep a squad beyond its warranty to win the net spend trophy. It’s bad luck compounding bad decisions
1000% spot on!!!! Whoever had the final say in going into the season with the squad we did is accountable...

What's wrong with trusted 433? The best and strongest City sides were 433, but he somehow did his best to get rid of players suited with that system.

I said we have a few problems and the best person to turn those problems around, when did I say that ,about this time last year in answer to exactly the same sort bollocks being posted now. Probably by the same posters that seem incapable of learning year to year.
Yawn...

Gundo is 34, Kevin 33, Kova and Bernardo are 30. That is the biggest issue. A lot of miles on those legs. You subtract the superstar colossus (Rodri) from the midfield and it begins to show cracks.

I don't think it is as bad as it seems (with the exception of our midfield). Defense will improve when Stones, Dias, Walker, Ake, Akanji are healthy. Gvardiol- Dias- Akanji- Walker is really good and physical enough to concede way less than now.

Our wingers are playing well. Savinho, Nunes, Doku and Jack have been decent and producing chances in general. Foden today was really good, and once he gets his rhythm, he'll be back.

The problem is Kovacic- Gundogan- Bernardo. When two of those play (even worse when all play), we simply cannot press like we used to do. They are slow so they never get on time, and once the press is beaten they are super slow going back. But right now is all we have (McAtee is just as slow, and O'Reilly maybe should get a chance). Right now it is what it is, but when we have a fit squad only Kovacic should be starting along Nunes/Grealish or anyone hat is physically competent and strong to do the pressing.

Honestly, to the people criticizing, we are still producing plenty of chances. Pep teams always press, it's just that we cannot do it with the players that are available right now.

Walker- Dias- Akanji - Gvardiol
Foden - Kovacic - Nunes/Grealish
Savinho- Haaland- Grealish/Nunes

What we cannot do is having Haaland, KDB, Doku, Bernardo, Gundogan, Kovacic at the same time (our 5 least physical players for pressing effectively). Even having more than 2 of those at the same time means getting exposed.

Doku is great for the last 30 min, KDB same. I don't like either Grealish/Nunes as midfielders, but it's the only way to get some physicality and be able to press again without getting exposed time after time. If this line up cannot press without getting exposed, then the season is over for us. And it's fine. We regroup and try better next season. But if this is the case, I want McAtee, O'Reilly, Pusey, Wright, Rico playing more minutes than KDB, Bernardo, Gundogan, Stones, Walker who are all gonna be gone next season or in 2 seasons.

We’ve lost 3 games in a week and you know what, none affect the season in a meaningful way.
People who criticise him the most always claim he’s a lucky manager who has had everything laid down on plate and maybe there’s a grain of truth in that but the reason he’s the best of the best is because he never stops evolving.
He’s a pretty exceptional person when you listen to him on many subjects. He’s humble, he’s razor sharp and commands the respect of anybody who follows the game who’s not a tribal bellend.
I’m looking forward to seeing him figure things out.
There’s nobody in football I’d rather have with the task.

His is the greatest coach to manage the game. What the man has achieved for city is not repayable.

Many of us will never turn on him, sure we question his logic sometimes out of frustration but you can’t question his commitment towards the club.

We have often said it won’t be topped. The come down could well start now, who knows.

It’s been exciting and exceptional. The pain we have caused, I can’t thank him enough.

The team needs some new players and we have been badly hit by injuries. Some self inflicted and some not. That’s football, we go again.

In pep I trust
for everything that he has done for the club

never pep out for me
and I will disagree with anyone saying pep out
