Loyalty is one thing, blind faith another, but both need to be jetisoned for brutal honesty and ruthlessness that some are no longer 90 minute players or able to go the hard yards

End of the day pep is not bigger than Manchester City and he now needs to stop with this ridiculous decision baking in the subs and start to try and salvage our season and if that means benching the old guards and changing our style to accomadate erling then so be it and if pep’s ego won’t allow then we need to move on because with every game this is getting harder . Pep is one of the greatest managers ever and loved by all at Man City but like all the other greats there comes a time when football moves on and we are seeing this now .

Set the team up to do a job, apart from the first 10 minutes and barring two big errors, not to mention more injuries he got it spot on, some of the shite posted on here about the best manager in the world after a defeat and by usually the same people is incredible, the only thing he got wrong was the faith in put in this bunch of players before a ball had been kicked, I have no doubt that come next season we will have a beast of a squad

Sees the bigger picture and we don't lose our players to injuries last night we would have been ok stones was unbelievable in midfield too! Pep though I've said if all the time he only looks at a player and what he does on the ball! The other problem is he has an assistant with the identical thinking! Bottom line some of our main players have made massive mistakes when it matters last night it was Ederson!

I dont know how to word it correctly, but the best coach in the world should have more than one way of playing. Surely the best coaches change their style based on circumstances? We have a team that looks effective being direct and we just bought one of the fastest and in form strikers in europe who played in a team that hits on the break.

But pep insists on playing high but with no press cos the plays Players that cant press or he tells them not to press.

He is a genius but he’s flawed at this moment. Who am I to question the best coach we’ve ever had, one of the best coaches ever in any sport? But the results and performances this season raise this question.
He absolutely should have more than one way to play. It’s not about winning stuff for me, it’s about being competitive.

We have seen odd occasions (Chelsea) where we’ve been direct and it worked. As you say, we’ve just brought in Marmoush who flourished in a direct team. So does Haaland.

My frustration is that we can all see it isn’t working at the moment. He will stick with it and maybe we’ll get top 4/5, we’ll see. But he’ll come out after it and say he wasn’t good enough. He is the best coach, but I agree his performance raises the question this season. He looks exhausted. He needs some time off and he’s not going to get it thanks to a summer of nonsense in the US.

We’re talking about rebuilding the squad but I seriously think we need to rebuild the coaching and medical staff too.

Personally, I think Pep has killed KDB’s career at City in his 30s by pushing him into the second striker role and having him press like a maniac. I think it has both brought on and exacerbated his injuries, and I believe it has helped create an atmosphere of “too old” around possibly the best player to ever pull on the shirt!

KDB is a midfielder who needs the freedom to move at will, to create the opportunities for passes, crosses and shots that have defined his career as world class. Sadly, I think Pep believes that is a luxury we can’t afford, so he flogs him like a dead horse and wonders why he can’t play 90 minutes or looks shattered at 70-75 mins.

I hate that Pep has done this, but I think KDB understands the game (that Pep is playing!) and will milk it for all it’s worth to provide for his family.

For me, Pep has literally shortened KDB’s City career and I can only hope it’s not an exercise in hoping to move him on and redistribute the £400,000/week. I wish I could be sure.

We are not getting top 4 as we are not good enough this season and pep will continue picking his old guard favourites who will in turn burn out after an hour rinse and repeat every fucking week and if anyone expects next to bd any different then they are living in hope. Really getting pissed off with peps decision making now .
Can't argue with that. Playing his mates and his teachers pet is killing any chance of top 4/5 for us.

We've been largely shite for 4 months with those players. We sign 4 new players in the window and he continues with the players that have got him in the shit!!

For me a total refresh in personnel and tactics is needed.

Gundo should be eased into a coaching role and Rico can assist the kit man. Harsh reality check needed by Pep. All this sentimental crap will not get us where we need to be. He needs to break out his ruthless side (if he has one)!!

i always saw Kev dropping deeper as he got older, think it would work, he could send long balls over the top for erl and mamoush bit like a quarterback

"We took the game in the second half and tried to attack too quickly."

I mean, if that's us attacking quickly when we decide to attack slow it's going to be something special.
Yeah that’s utter bullshit. Even the stupid 2nd goal it’s not like Ederson tried a quick ball out. He took an age(rightly so) to let everyone get up the pitch and then did a ridiculous kick.

His game is the killer pass or cross from the 30-35 yard arc, to either Haaland or a late runner. He even has a trademark fucking pass named after him, FFS!

In addition, he has an excellent outside shot, with either foot, and can break the line with a late run and get through on goal.

Instead, we tell him “play second striker and when they have possession at the back chase the ball until they’ve passed around you and you’re knackered, then walk back trying to recover, so it looks like you’re not fit and your injuries have knobbled your game!”

Now, look at Gundo! Swap their roles and tell me how Gundo would do? Or Kova? Or Phil, who is a spring chicken?!

Needs a new assistant.
I honestly think he needed to leave us in the summer. He looks so drained, similar to Klopp’s end at Liverpool. Seems like he knew that and had every intention of doing that, until we imploded on the pitch. Then he felt guilty about leaving us in a state. But Pep seems to be in a state too and I don’t think it’s a given that we are elite again in his remaining years. Pep has had a really poor season, not just by his standards, by any standard.

While I've been critical of Pep this season in as much as he stubbornly refuses to adapt to the current situation I also think managers get too much credit for the teams success and to much criticism when it falls apart.

Chelsea when they were winning stuff changed managers every year. But the team was run by Lampard, Drogba, Terry and Cole.

We had Vincent, Yaya, Zaba, Dinho and Silva and more recently Rodri, Walker, Días, Kevin. Not necessarily captain's all bit on their own way offered on field leadership.

With Rodri out we're lacking that. Kovacic doesn't offer it and as good as Akanji and Ake can be neither do they.

Dias, Rodri, Haaland, Gvardiol and hopefully Nico will do that for us moving forward.

The reason why Pep plays Kevin in attacking roles is that his game is one of trying bold and risky passes and also that he can't hold on the ball like, say, Bernardo. KDB isn't a midfielder in big games these days, as we would be too open and would suffer more counters.

A proper midfielder must be good in duels, tackles, etc. The only thing that Kevin can do in the defensive phase is high pressing. Pep himself has explained it many times.

That's why when you label him our most complete player you are wide off the mark. Bernardo is more complete, Gundo at his best was more complete (could play at 6, 8, 10 and false 9), Rodri is another level altogether in terms of completeness and overall influence on the team performance. Kevin is/was a genius atracking wise, he wasn't very complete as a midfielder even in his best years due to his serious deficiencies in the defensive phase and inability to control a game.

NOT a “proper midfielder” you say?

And, our game is not holding onto the ball, it is moving the ball…as in “make the ball do the running.”

“Wasn’t a complete midfielder even in his best years”

I’m lost for words, so I’ll leave it there. It’s almost 0230 here in Chicago, so I don’t want to argue, but 99.9% of the footballing world might want a word!

It's obvious for anyone watching football that Kevin isn't great defensively wise and that he can't keep possession as well as the other midfielders. I wrote that he is/was a genius attacking wise. This doesn't make him complete. Haaland is a genius goalscoring wise, this doesn't make him a complete forward. Your criticism of Pep doesn't hold water.
