Pep Guardiola - 2024/25

Plain didn't trust the new signings. If he wasn't going to bring Nico on, thought he should've at least kept Stones in DM and brought on Khusanov.

Remind me of one where we conceded 2 goal in 5 minutes
Not what you initially wrote.

Mancini ended in tears because he alienated a squad of world-class players in their prime, hence he had to go.

Guardiola is currently having an awful time when the majority of the squad has left their best days behind them, and a big fraction of those with age on their side is too early in their development to be expected to carry a team competing where we want to compete.

One has won 7 Premier League titles in 8 years with largely the same core of players and is now in need of a new group of players to go again (frustrating and disapointing lack of ability to adapt aside), the other needed to make major changes to the young world-class squad he built after one league-title to survive because his style of management wore the players out. Spot the difference

And I love Mancini

I think we miss reality check at the moment. We are not the team which controls the match for 90mins

We have seen a million times some random team waisting time and using small injuries to get team talk minutes. We missed that yesterday. Small pause and Pep who gives instructions to the players to keep they head cold.

he may will be against the idea so I hope Khaldoon will get involved to help it, but he has to be explained that the board thinks serious investment need to be made into:

-playing squad, to replace the old guard and give energy, speed, hunger back which is mostly gone from majority of our squad. January 200m spent is just the start.

-serious change in sporting director department, old, tired, complacent Txiki replaced by Viana.

-and the big one: just as playing squad and sporting director needs new blood, Pep's complete backroom staff needs serious new blood:
Lillo, get the next Arteta, Maresca please
GK coach for assisting Ederson, Ortega drop their level seriously
SET PIECE COACH (instant dismissal, he must be stealing a living)
physios for assisting our players having so many injuries and have no fitness and stamina and we end up dead around 60th minute most games, we already look slow and tired in November wtf...

Pep needs help from his backroom staff but doesnt get much by the look of it. he may be sentimental about them just as he is about past it players who helped us to win a lot but shouldnt be given playing time anymore.

in previous years we needed to make regular backroom staff changes as they were poached by other clubs offering them more important roles etc.
absolute no one is going to come and poach our set piece coach or Lillo now...

Newcastle and liverpool are probably certs then spurs away our bogey team

Newcastle are nowhere near as good as Real, so we may get a result. Liverpool is hard to tell. They don't have the quality on the ball like Madrid but can run further than them. Hopefully we'll have Doku for these games. Might help us on the counter.

Pep lost us that game last night. Who else on here thought bringing on Lewis at right back who is consistently poor in that position, Kovatic as a holding mid , who looks as if he's running in treacle and Gundogan who is a shadow of his former self, were the right substitutions. His loyalty to these players this season has cost us a lot of games and points.

Newcastle aren’t anywhere near as good as Madrid for talent as you say. What they have got over them is great intensity something we badly struggle against. The only reason we got into that game last night was after the first 15 Madrid’s press dropped off a lot

Brilliant inventive formation to start with, then fucking nightmare substitutions! Not sure how to read that last night any other way. He’s having a nightmare session but I believe we owe it to him to write off this season and see what he comes up with next season with the rebuild

Real were creating many chances in the first half as well, the protection from midfield wasn't sufficient. Not sure the formation was brilliant. We'd have been better off with Kova instead of KDB. Kevin worked hard, but they could easily play through our press and then had acres of space to exploit.

I want to trust him to get it right next season but I fear that it's all just too much pressure on everyone.

A new manager is the obvious way imo to defuse all the tension, give everyone an equal chance to show what they have, bring in new talent, try a different approach.

Nothing is forever so the day always comes to say goodbye. Its not the end of the world to not go out on a high.

I'd name a stand after him, build him a giant statue, send him a creamy cake every birthday and give him a pink slip.

What if the new manager is like Amorim and we struggle to make the top 4 after getting rid of Pep? It's not like they're many great managers around.

Having great intensity without having great quality means there are spaces to be attacked. They can't keep possession like Madrid and won't be able to play through our high press like them. Intensity or not, Newcastle are levels below Madrid.

Correct, I suspect they will overun our defence. We could and should have held on to win last night and gained in confidence , now we go into the next game low on confidence.

This all day.
I'm more worried about the manager's performances these days rather than the players on the pitch.

Probably would be like that. It is always a long road of chop and change to get the right manager.

Pep will not stay forever and we can't guarantee that the next guy (or gal) will be as good for as long.

In my opinion now is probably the best time to get someone new (if they are available). Expectations are low, months to try things, summer for signings, new season probably another test bed.

Anyway it's not my decision but if it was and the right candidate was ready I'd switch.

Mate every decent team can play through our high press (it's almost a joke calling it a press to begin with), you don't have to be as good as Madrid to do it.
