hate it that this season we cannot make advantage of opponents having injury issues.

Arsenal missing Saka their best attacker. what happens? they score 5 past us.
Real missing Alaba, Rudiger, Militao, Carvajal and have a makeshift defence. what happens? we score one action goal and one pen and one chance from a corner header and thats all the chances we have.
apart from the pen, did we even put pressure on their defence in all 2nd half?

Same exact thing is happening again and again.. Pep trusting Kova to shut up shop and that ironically opens the shop up.

Kova is bar none the worst signing by City for the past 15 years.. if he's so good, how come Real let him go, or Chelsea let him go. It's because he's SHIT on the ball in the heart of midfield. Pep at least realizes that about Nunes but he is blind as a bat with Kova.

And none of our midfielders can play a line breaking pass to the Strikers. If they do.. they get benched (like Nunes).

No way a injured new signing Nico would have played any worse than Kova or Gundo last night. Khusnov doesn't get beat that many times since he has the physical tools. 3rd goal 100% he decks Vini to the floor if he doesn't clear it before hand. Worse case Khusnov brings him down and game ends with red/yellow but a draw. I wholeheartedly blame Kova for it since it was yet another brain dead pass. Kova keeps starting or sub'ed on in these big games and does nothing but loss possession. Night and day difference with Stones at DM.

Worse signing in 15 years? Don't talk bollocks

I’m worried about the Newcastle game.

I can’t see us turning things round in Madrid next week, but he’ll prepare for it in the belief we can, which of course he should. But I think this means we’ll see changes in the team this weekend and I expect kovacic, Lewis and Gundo to start. We’ll get absolutely swamped and bypassed. Kev will play again and he’ll start against Madrid on Wednesday too.

I’d rather he threw caution to the wind and allow them to play quickly, but I fear he’ll stick to his blueprint for the season and try to just retain the ball at all costs.

I think teams figured out the blueprint vs control teams..

Just sit back, defend with 10 at the back, if we turn it over (which we have this season), send 3-4 players up fast, and nick a goal or two so we are even more open as we have to take chances to get back in.

Sadly it's not rocket science but it is very effective.

This has always been the plan. It's just successful this season because we have 3 or 4 players whose legs have gone.

Football hasn't changed over the last 12 months, our players have.

So if Guardiola also loses the next 3 games (unlikely but a possibility), what are the chances that he is asked to leave at the end of the season?
Judgement time for all parties, I believe, will be end of the season and not before. He’s at least earned that right and - if the worst happens - has also earned the right to walk rather than be sacked. Both he and his gaffers are honourable men whose conduct in public means a lot to them.

That said, I’m not betting on him being here next season. The man is struggling.

So what you are saying is that Pep’s tactics have been figured out ?

What would be your solution to that problem , seeing as though you’ve got this football lark all worked out - after all it’s not rocket science so enlighten us

He’s never getting sacked in my meaningless opinion. The club will give him the opportunity to set us right after this season and support him to get who he thinks he needs.

I also don’t quite think he’ll walk after this season. Considering recency bias, this season tarnishes his legacy and he seems too proud a guy to walk away from the challenge that is the rebuild that’s coming.

Needs to check his pride and stubbornness by being flexible in how we play and who he selects because what’s going on now can’t continue.

Sometimes people come out with very smart defensive solutions that work for millenia. Just like someone developed Caltrops to stop a mighty army and the same thing works 2000 years later.

As for the solution.. Stones gave Kovacic a lesson in how to run the midfield yesterday!

So how about not putting trust in players who can't carry the game plan out? It's a radical theory I know..

So pep’s tactics were working and he came up with a plan on how to give Madrid a game , once we got to grips with them I felt comfortable after about 15 mins , up to the point when Ake went off

The change in personnel due to injury is what caused us problems, not Pep’s tactics that have been found out

So I guess we agree , give Pep the players and we will see better results or are you still going to waffle on about control teams and their outdated tactics

Yes, and no!

Yes because we were still in it. And Ake was a stone wall defensively. The Ake for kovacic sub changed the entire game around as it weakened us in 2 positions.. midfield and defense.

No because Madrid were more dangerous and could have easily had 5 goals. The closest one was the Valverde miss till we gift wrapped it for them.

And no matter which way anyone slices it.. these are the facts:

Last season at the Etihad on 17th April last year, we had 34 shots and had them on the ropes. KDB had a chance to clinch it.

10 months later, they come to the Etihad with a makeshift defense, boss the midfield and easily could have scored five.

The drop off from City is HUGE.
