Pep Guardiola - 2024/25

The team we've seen in the previous seasons to this is finished now. There's still one or two dissenters on here who can't let go but ultimately they're in a fuzzy headed nostalgic trance. My gut feeling is Pep's putting on a brave face in his typical charismatic style which I agree with. I would be stunned however if behind the scenes he's not plotting how to rejuvenate us into a great team again. The contract extension more or less tells us this. This summer really needs to be about sorting the deficiencies in the team out, of which there a few to be honest.

Of course he is, he’s not stupid - his great team of the past 8 years has come to an end and he knows it. The problem is we need to get to the end of this season before the rebuild can start in earnest

In the meantime there will be ups and downs but we should have enough to scrape over the line , like we did in 16/17 when the last rebuild was required

The club needs to get recruitment spot on in the summer though. No more shopping in Aldi for a bargain , we need top shelf players to come directly into the first team and be mainstays of our next great side

The bare minimum will be one new defender, specifically a right back , two new midfielders and probably a new keeper

If he gets these players of the required quality we will be back next season

Who's saying he's stupid?

That may have been a factor at times this season, but recently it hasn’t been the case.

Doku was available on Wednesday, as was De Bruyne, but neither got a sniff, even for 10 minutes.

De Bruyne was knackered after 45 minutes today but stayed on until the game was effectively done.

His use of the bench hasn’t been good.
Respect your opinion but personally don’t buy it.
Doku hadn’t played for weeks and I suspect wasn’t fit. KDB can’t do more than 30 mins before he is out of steam. I think for those reasons, they weren’t considered viable options..
Just my opinion though.

Sorry that was more of a response to the people in this thread questioning if Pep has lost it
Get you mate. If that's so they're the stupid ones. There's a lot of frustration at the moment, much of it totally understandable. In reality what we're seeing shouldn't really have happened to the extent it has. Some of our defeats this season have been beyond shocking. I'm convinced Pep's still the man though. Squad wise we need to blend the best of what we have now with a number of fresh arrivals. A few favourites will depart in the process but the time is right.

Same mistakes from him week in week out, and fitness/injuries obviously has a role to play but KDB was never gonna have the legs to play against the most dynamic midfield in the league

The club need a break, Pep included, but that was pathetic and he seems intent on setting us up to fail by trusting guys that literally can't run over some new blood who at least can put the hard yards in

Not helping himself, but still feel confident we'll get top 4 especially if Haaland injury isn't long

Guardiola's success is bult on a world class squad where we have two top players covering each position, where the players are at the top of their game, and opposition teams haven't worked out how to negate all the positives oozing out of a starting eleven. The whole symphony is conducted at a pace that frightens the sewage out of defences. This isn't the case any longer. Kev's attempt on goal just about summed up the quality that has slowly seeped away. We haven't got a defence, often ridiculed by a press that never bothered about the goals we hadn't conceded, nor a strident midfield feeding a hungry forward line. If those elements aren't present then any manager struggles. Just look at Ruben! Oh, and I don't know whether anyone has noticed but you could go and queue up for a Bovril, come back, and we'd still be passing the ball sideways 'n sideways. Dead easy for opposition teams - they don't have to do much - no chasing, not even a half-hearted press, just wait until Doku or Savio get the ball and shove three defenders on 'em.

We were saying similar yesterday that you could have had a couple of oaps at CB for Liverpool and it wouldn't really matter because the moves just fizzle out before they get that far.
What I would say is I don't blame tbe wingers for that I would say KdB and especially Foden didn't impose themselves on the attacking situations which without naming them I think Pep was referring to.

Just look at our best wins this season and you will see it’s direct play but we still revert back to crab football . It’s getting fucking annoying now .

Starting De Bruyne and bringing on Gundogan and Kovacic was suicide. Taking off Nico and Marmoush also just insane. He’d given up.

I’m not sure if it’s loyalty to his players, blind belief they’ll come good or whatever but he’s struggling to come to the same conclusion as everybody else, that some of our players are just absolutely finished and shouldn’t get a kick anymore.

So many questions again. I don't think yesterday was too bad but the fact he started Lewis shown me again he is all over the shop.

KDB clearly cannot play at that level or intensity anymore.
Gvardiol is our only reliable defender and he is still thrown at left back every single week, whilst the centre of our defence has gaping holes in it
Same boring, slow build up which every single team has now worked out that all they have to do is simply stay in shape, we will have no penetration and then they can pick up the pieces once they win it back and attack quickly. Twice in the first 5 minutes Liverpool were attacking and we won it back and went to break quickly, seconds later we was at walking pace and passing backwards. Dull as dishwater to watch currently and I genuinely said it at the start of the season whilst we was topping the table. We are very boring to watch, others blamed the set up of the opposing sides when in reality we aren't adapting or being innovative to work around that obstacle.

This season has really shed light on some of Peps limitations. You cannot take away the amazing success he has brought us but it is time to think outside of the box. Throwing countless money at it can't be the only solution, he needs to show what a great coach he is, which this season he hasn't. That isn't winning everything every year but simply competing. It is a sorry state when we are going into games often and expecting to lose, that level of fall simply cannot happen.
