Agree that there is no way we can sack Pep after this awful season.
We certainly have no right to be champions every season however at the very least I would have expected us to have qualified for the latter stages of the champions league quite easily plus been in a comfortable place for a top four finish.
There are many reasons for the rapid demise of the best team in the country and probably Europe last season…..not least the dramatic drop off from some of the senior players compared to last season added to the injuries, the age of the squad and I’m sure the constant negativity and speculation about the 115 charges and a potential point deduction has also not helped.
However Pep is also culpable:
- Turning down the chance of refreshing the Squad in the Summer
- Confusing tactics including the inverted full back which hangs both full backs out to dry. Everyone can see (including the opposition)that a long diagonal ball over Gvardiol who is shifting over to the right along with the rest of the defence to cover the missing fullback is causing us to concede in virtually every game….why can’t Pep see it ?
- The constant playing of the wingers on their wrong sides means that Haaland does not get any kind of service from the wings.
- The most disappointing aspect of Pep’s time at City is reluctance to use youth especially ones that have come up through the Youth set up.
I really hope Pep is here next season to start the rebuild however I also hope his ego is not to big for him to admit some of his mistakes and alter his tactics and handling of the younger players.
