Pep - Manager of the Season 2017/18

He was going on about "it's one thing to play beautiful football; it's another to make the most out of what you have and play to your players' strengths." I believe close to his exact words were "There's talk about Dyche being named manager of the year, and I agree with that."
I wouldn’t quibble if Dyche got it to be quite honest. Pep’s taken a team that was widely tipped to win the league and - er - won the league. Dyche has taken a team widely tipped for relegation into the Europa League. I wouldn’t begrudge him the MOTY award.

That's fair -- but I would, given the fashion in which City won. Widely tipped to win the league is one thing -- but who tipped City to have it won in April by such a huge margin, with the current point total and goal difference? No one that I've seen. It was supposed to be nip and tuck and hard to pick.

To your point, though, looking at the 18 ESPN writers polled at season's beginning -- who are of varying quality -- 13/18 had City to win the league, 14/18 had Burnley relegated.

I think given the history of the award (not City's history of 0 for 2, but of the league winning manager winning it all but 3 or 4 times), Pep kind of HAS to win it, and Sean Dyche gets the KDB award :).

You’ve got to be kidding PB! They’ve scored 35 goals, didn’t win a game between December and March, and their ‘style’ of play amounts to lumping the ball downfield for Ashley Barnes and Sam Vokes to jump into the opposition centre halves (ie foul them) non-stop for 90 minutes. They’re just the least shit of the also-rans. To give the award to a typical hoof and chase English manager, who spouts the same kind of one eyed crap as Allardyce whenever his team gets beaten, in a season when Pep has smashed all manner of records and revolutionised English football completely, would be the travesty to end all travesties

While I get the drift. Pep has taken a team that could have won the league and has totally smashed it and possibly will smash records that have existed for aeons. Not only that, but he has taken good players and improved them. Every single one.
Not Manager of the Season, Manager of the Century!

Is this a joke ??!

This and only this. Anything other than this is utter bollocks. Only 2 managers to win the league and not win MotS being City ones. If Pep dosent win that its a disgrace to not only football but to sport and only confirms bias and the backwards, caveman dinosaur tactics prevalent in this country.

Sums up my thoughts exactly.

If Dyche gets MotY it would be the biggest advert for the most dour way to play football. He might well have squeezed every last ounce out of that squad, but Pep has been hammering on four fronts, won two of them and played the most scintillating football seen in the PL ever. If he doesn't receive the award after that then he never will. And were he to be begrudged an award in future seasons I cannot think that that season, even with a third trophy, would be better. We all know why he's not going to receive MotY and it just indicates another thing that is wrong with the modern game! He's head, shoulders, torso, todger, kneecap and toenail ahead of any other manager in the league. No one comes near, and so the vague guidelines for awarding MotY, if they exist, will be rewritten, our intelligence will be insulted after another title win, and we repeat our title winning seasons of 2012 and 2014! Remember future City managers, if you have an eye on MotY then manage another club, 'cos no matter what you achieve, yer doomed.

So what now constitutes manager of the year then?

Seemingly confined to clubs who have fewer resources, in a league where the bottom team still walks away with £100m?

Dyche wouldn't have City in the top four with our squad.

Same as Mark Hughes spent £300m and couldn't do better than eighth when he was with us.

Everton spent £250m these last 12 months, they were staring at relegation before Christmas.

Pep has redefined the game in this country on so many levels, most notably, that an English team can play like Barcelona.

Beautifully summed up.
