Pep - Manager of the Season 2017/18

So they introduce “points per pound” as a way to justify not picking Pep... but Pep has the best points per pound anyway? Hahahaha!

I suppose it was inevitable in these days of FFP that the manager of the year should be the one who gets more points to the pound but it's rather like the team award in F1 going to the car that gts most miles to the gallon. I don't think we have to resort to denying the very real achievements of Eddie Howe, Sean Dyche or any of our other competitors; managing in the PL is far from easy and managers have to work hard and smart just for their teams to stand still. But it remains so obviously true that no-one has come close to getting as much out his players as Pep. As is so often stated, Pep has improved every single player in his squad, from the youngest to the oldest. City may have been the bookies' favourites at the start of the season but no-one ever dreamt that the PL would have all the characteristics of a one horse race by mid September, that City would not only have smashed the record for consecutive PL wins by early December but have increased it by a third by the end of 2017, and that this run would include a unique run of three wins by a 5 goal margin. No-one could quite believe the style with which these records were set - the football was from another world. And we come to decide who to vote for! One candidate has already won the PL - in fewer games that any manager has ever done. By the end of the season his team could have won more games in a season than any other team has ever done. And scored more goals. And won more points. He could thus be manger of the best ever PL team. He is certainly the manager of the year. Unless, of course, they are determined NOT to vote for him...because he doesn't ,manage a London club...because he doesn't manage Manchester United...because he DOES manage Manchester City.
So you would be in favour of Dyche then?

If Sean Dyche deserves MotY more than Pep, it can only be because he is recognised as the "better" manager. Therefore, if a club such as Arsenal needed a new manager and both Dyche and Pep were available, they would choose Dyche. Logic dictates they (and every other club in the world) would much rather entrust the future of the club to Pep. Therefore Pep is the better manager and rightful recipient of MotY. Case proven.

And conversely, had Pep been at Turf Moor with their budget, and BigFatSean been at the Etihad and both had achieved exactly the same record as stands now, Dyche would get it for collecting two trophies, bringing a season of staggering football to the fans and generally being head and shoulders above anyone else in the business of being a football manager!

I fancy it will be another season where the winner of the title doesn't win - simply because they are employed by MCFC!!

We've averaged 72 per cent possession in ALL Premier League games this season.

That is a staggering 21 per cent more than the previous record, also attained by us last season.

Let that digest. Regardless of the opposition and tactics, our manager still dominates with his will to play the game the only way he knows how to.

That's the truest barometer of his genius and the remarkable work of this team.

posted this in the match thread last night.

Burnley's record against the other top 8:
Pld: 13, W: 2, D: 4, L: 7, GS: 11, GC: 21, GD: -10, Pts: 10/39.

Against the bottom 12:

Pld: 21, W: 12, D: 6, L: 3, GS: 23, GC: 10, GD: 13, Pts: 42/63.

So Dyche has just been great at getting results against the teams usually in the relegation battle against them. Considering the standard of those sides, it's a good but not outstanding achievement, if he'd regularly punched above his weight and got wins against top sides then I'd buy it a bit more.

In comparison...Pep:

Top 8, Pld: 14, W: 11, D: 1, L: 2, GS: 38, GC: 13, GD: 25, Pts: 34/42.

Bottom 12: Pld: 19, W: 17, D: 2, L: 0, GS: 55, GC: 12, GD: 43, Pts: 53/57.

Plus, Burnley have scored 15 goals at home this season, City managed 18 in their first 4 home games. Burnley have also made 7366 short passes this season, Otamendi, Fernandinho, Silva and De Bruyne have made 8,598 between them. City in total have made 20,548, so Burnley would have to play for nearly 2 more seasons to make as many passes as we have in less than 1.

Hahaha! Brilliant :)

even more so when you consider that Burnley have scored 15 and in 06/07 under Pearce we managed 10, even though we didn't score after NYD and only scored in 6 out of 19 home games, in fact add in the cup games (2 FA Cup) we reach 15 and Burnley would only have 17, some achievement.

I was looking at the years the PL winning manager didn't get Manager of the year.

It's only happened 4 times, out of 24 awards:

First in 2000-01 George Burley got it for taking Ipswich to 5th when United won, (Ferguson had won it 6 times before so he probably wasn't too upset);

Second in 2009-10, Harry Rednap got it taking Spurs to 4th when Chelsea won it, (Mourinho had won it twice before);

Third in 2011-12, Alan Pardew got it taking Newcastle to 5th, (although the award was given out 2 days before the end of season!), when we won the PL with Mancini so dramatically;

Fourth in 2013-14, Tony Pulis got it for taking Palace out of relegation to 11th place! When Pellegrini won the PL playing some fabulous football.

Surely they can't fail to give it to Pep after the season we have had? It would be a huge injustice and snub to the best manager in the world.
