Pep: 'The players deserve a full stadium, we need our fans!'

safe standing and booze (slight contradiction!) and we'll sell every match no problem

following the blues has always been as much about the banter, beer with mates etc as it has about the football, how else do you explain those div 2 crowds.

Museum tours, getting to your seat early, the match experience alone is just not our hard core support.

The only thing left that needs improving is us. Face it.

It's only a guess but I think what made us great is costing us now. Hard core of loyal support in the dark days now in their fifties and sixties won't give up their season tickets but moan when they go and can't be bothered half the time.

Club realise they must attract the youngsters and it is working slowly, much to the annoyance of some fogies who see the efforts as blatant commercialism or cheesey.

I still believe that some fans are annoyed there is so little to moan about as that's what attracted them to us in the first place.

The away support is fine. Home support is crap. We need new blood and in the meantime Pep is right to put a rocket up the rest of us. It's time to stop congratulating ourselves on our past loyalty when we were crap and start to back the team now the future has never been brighter.

You are spot on about the aeging moaners, it's in our DNA, it's like being surrounded by thousands of Albert Tatlock's, we are in many cases despite the success of recent years undemonstrative and crabby.

It doesn't make sense for the club financially to make every game a tenner. Barca will sell out as likely Celtic will to so who makes the call as to what teams will attract and which wont? Then as you point out the crowd for the tenner games will vary from the more expensive games and the atmosphere will drop once again. As I said the solution isn't that simple but it certainly needs addressed.

maybe not finically, but in terms of having a good atmosphere/ sold out ground it would help. i think it is that simple. I'm not saying let us in for free, it was great tonight, but with all the money, i think the things I've mentioned outweigh and would help us massively.

I do attend but actually don't like the competition. But I'm a single man with no kids and don't have the financial constraints of some of my mates who are married with kids so I just go to the games. I honestly don't go because I enjoy it, I just go because I'm a City fans and City are playing.

My ranking of the competitions we play in goes:
Premier League
FA Cup

League Cup

Community Shield

Europa League

Champions League

Tonight didn't feel like a CL games, felt more like a more enjoyable EL night. I didn't even enjoy getting to the semis last season, it did nowt for me at all.

I actually preferred the Europa League nights, this competition is bent and only one English club should be in it this season, Leicester City, the English champions in the Champions League.

I was buzzing when I got back from the game. Now reading this thread I don't know whether I should be embarrassed or depressed or both. I'd be anxious too if I could spell it without copying the word from GDM's post.
I thought it was a really good night, obviously I was wrong.

i know the game was cheap tonight but even at the cheap prices its dear for a mum and dad with 2 kids once the admission, food and travel costs are added up,it is affecting other clubs even the swamp last season there were empty seats up in the quadrants

£17.50 for a champions league game is a very good price but still many didn't come.

Its been the same for the last few years ,no idea why,its baffling to me. Had a whole row to me and my two lads tonight, will be full of "regulars" on Saturday.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the pricing, a lot of regulars don't buy into it.

Question.

Was tonight's good atmosphere picked up by the TV?

You can withhold your BM username if you were watching the match on the TV. ;-)

A slight diversion but this is why, IMO, a European Super League wouldn't be as popular as some people might think.

well if that ever came along then my days at city would come to an end,i would have zero interest in a Euro super lg and i think thousands would bail out

Why don't people come though? I don't get it. We can't just use the work excuse or kids, I'm sure fans of every club in Europe have that sort of stuff to deal with and they still turn up.

Coming out of the ground I've never seen so many mobility scooters...it's like the start of Mario carts....feel a bit left out actually like we should all have one.

Might take a few more years to change it all around. Our home crowd seems to be old blokes and young girls. Strange demographic!
