Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

I really doubt that City will sack Pep but I would do it because unless he extends his contract he will be a coach in limbo next season and added to that he's severely damaged his copy book tonight. It was one of the single worst managerial cock-ups I can remember. We have had some really bad times but never have we had such resources at our disposal. How one of the best coaches in the world convinced himself to play such a pedestrian and defensive side against Lyon given his options I will never know, but Pep does this for some reason. it is a trait. The players will be hurt by this and I can see it being very damaging. I wouldn't listen to a guy who messed up so bad when it mattered. That's how people work. You switch off.

I can not seen an obvious solution although Bielsa would be intriguing.

No to Bielsa although there is a real shortage of top coaches.

Naglesmann is worth keeping tabs but we've got to be cautious with this. A similar bright Bundesliga coach (Tuchel) struggled when he stepped up at Dortmund and isn't that popular at PSG at the minute.
Tuchel played the same negative game as PSG coach against Atalanta but then was saved at the death by Mbappe and the Stokie. No such luck for us tonight.

Problem is Pep hasnt got a great track record when it comes to signings, Laporte and Sane are the only 2 good ones imo, the rest questionable, although Cancelo is now picking up.
Feel like silva was master class last season. Best player we had. This season he has lost form but so has the whole team. I think mahrez this season is picking up also. It’s not the players imo, it is pep over thinking. If we would just stick to what works and not change it at dumb times we would be fine. We had some bad luck in defense with injuries but a lot has to do with weird tactics at weird times.

Sorry i forgot about Bernardo, my bad..

• Pep outfoxed himself, but he was too stubborn or proud to change it early, when he could have slid Ferna into MF, and moved KDB into false nine.
• Ederson saved a Walker OG attempt(!) and a few shots, but is at least 50% to blame for 1st goal (after Walker & Laporte HORRENDOUS @defending”) and 99% to blame for their 3rd.
• Walker is too dumb to play a high line, but his pace usually saves his arse when he allows players to get the wrong side of him. On their 1st, he not only plays another man inside, but he jogs back while watching his own man score the goal unmarked, zero pressure! Players elsewhere on the front line even use him to spring the offside trap and the other defenders are too fucking brain dead to follow the man, then it costs us. Speaking of which...
• Laporte played his worst game in Blue EVER.
• Midfield was slow and ponderous, against a strong and fast opposition, which allowed them into their defensive shell when we got the ball...but even that was only if they didn’t fight to win it back. They didn’t give us a minutes peace, and successfully shut out the outlet pass to the wings repeatedly.
• Sterling...what can you say? He is the worst finisher of any “world class” forward I have ever seen in my 56 yrs on earth. Sure, he can come in from the left, dummy a shot (usually a few times!!!) and wrap one into the far corner every month or so, but for our top scorer to miss the most important goal scoring opportunity of the season, from 5 yards out, with an open goal, on his preferred right foot, is fucking unbelievable...oh wait, no, it isn’t, because he’s gone it before!!! Give me £80M for him now and I’ll take your hand off! OK, £70M, done!
• Cancelo is not a left back, and certainly not in this team. Mendy should have played if we were playing 3/5, and we were looking for the whipped ball in behind.

Lastly, CLINICAL FINISHING. We lack it, winning clubs have it! We score tons of goals, but we miss tons and tons more! Not good enough.

This team is tired. Pep’s system is tired, because even bad clubs know how to nullify it.

Time for some new blood and for a Pep to stop tinkering every fucking day!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Good comments apart from Laporte. He was far worse last year against Spurs.

Pochetino or Nanglesmann.
Not a domestic trophy as managers between them. Guardiola wannabees, promising but unproven, and you think City should risk their multi-million investment on potentially good managers when we already have one of the greatest starting to build a new squad. Let's get Harry Redknapp, at least he has won an F.A Cup and he specializes in spending other peoples money

I like Hasenhuttl but I don't really know. Pep lost a lot of credit in the bank tonight and as it stands is leaving in 12 months. I don't fancy City going into next season with Pep leaving and his tenure coloured by that cock-up.

There will be some City fans who will be defensive but that was an inexplicable error of judgement, Perhaps he wanted to conserve players for Bayern or he was adversely affected by past criticism of adventurism in Europe. he should be really embarrassed the next time he faces the press and his players.

I'd have absolutely no sympathy for him if he was fired tomorrow. Sarri lost his job after losing to Lyon and they won the league. City have underachieved this season and I don't mind that so much in a long good run but I do want to be able to understand the coach's thought process. Can City win the Champions League under Pep. if not, we should change coach because that is a key objective.

I do not trust him now. How can a coach get something so basic so wrong?

Said it before but I would like either pep to extend his contract or to be replaced because id rather we didn't spend fortunes building a side around a manager who won't be here in 12 months.

Pep leaving is not what i want but it just seems bizarre to let a departing manage spend out money given FFP delights.

Unless the new manager plays a similar style to Pep. I wouldn't mind giving one more season and let him go at the end of next season (unless the entire squad totally has given up on him).

We need to sort this out before the next season. I would get change manager if he's not going to commit beyond this season. I'm not sure I want him to stay now. Tonight has really made me doubt that he has it his make-up to manage a side to the Champions League now. I know he's done it in the past with barca but in recent seasons he's had a series of disasters. Sometimes it maybe bad luck but now he seems traumatised to the extent that he lost faith with the side that for the most part over two seasons has served him so well. there were individual errors and bad luck stories but this goes down in my book as a Pep cock-up.

Extend your contract and sort your head out, or go. City are going to come under footballing scrutiny now with all kinds of intrigue and every bit of it is down to Pep and his preparation for this game. How do you seriously ask the players for effort and berate them over every minor detail when you make such a horrific blunder as coach?

Other fans are critical of Pep. I've always ignored their criticism. No doubt coaches like Cloughie, Shankly, Ferguson made massive mistakes in their time but this is becoming a theme in Europe. Even before Pep came to City the press were lining up to question him over his european record and he's just given them loads more ammunition. Now you must have doubts yourself.
