Well, I guess I beg to differ. What is being built at City, in my opinion, is a much more dynamic skilful game with greater strength in depth. It is more exciting and enjoyable to watch and will bring more success and happiness to the fans. Liverpool are playing a high press by bypassing the midfield with success that I don’t think will last, they sacrifice competitions because they can only win one trophy per season. Pep is doing a better job.

Not seeing what’s being built at the moment to be honest as we’ve gone backwards. Yes to a level most clubs would love but you can’t call this progress surely? The fast free flowing football has also dwindled this year to lots more safe slow play at times across a fairly pedestrian midfield, KDB and Foden(when used) aside. Kompany gone no replacement, Dinho’s replacement looks inferior, Silva gone, Aguero another year older and Sane replaced by a young lad who hopefully can become a star but highly likely to need 6/12 months bedding in.

Not trying to be negative but hard to see where the squad has really progressed to since the squad that started 2018. Yes there is plenty of depth which the scousers don’t have but not hard to figure out why.

I could be wrong about this but I think the trail of thought at the club was the right CB was not available at the right price. One thing I have noticed in our transfer dealings is after the statement Robinho signing the club does not want to break the transfer record and walks away from deals that would do so. It was then deemed as a separate issue that walker needed competition and cover at RB. Let’s be honest Walker was fast but he lacked the technique Pep wanted. Cancelo comes in quite cocky if I remember correctly with a clear message that he wanted Walker’s place in the 1st team. Walker really upped his game consistently to a level that kept the Portuguese out.

Which ever way you look at we spent a lot of money but we did improve the right flank!...:)

Not sure we have, Walker has always been very good in my opinion, Cancelo has contributed little or nothing.

The injury/sale of Sane has meant Sterling playing more on the left, which to me lessens his and our effectiveness.

I don't think he has done enough to warrant a contract extension. I'm not a huge fan of rewarding failure. I'm sure that the higher ups set certain goals at the beginning of each season and I'm not sure winning one domestic trophy was the only goal the club had this past season.

I think the club should wait until the midpoint of next season to determine if he should be offered a contract extension. This would depend on the results, overall morale of the players and support of the fanbase.

Do you know what the targets are? I remember khaldoon explaining, 2hen we had pellegrini, that they expect bad years and that they happen. They don't exoect a trophy every year, but they look for 5 trophies in 5 years. Doubt such a holistic view has changed since.

This season was a failure, we didn’t set out to just win the league cup however you can’t win everything every year. If he got a new contract he wouldn’t be rewarded for failure, he’d be awarded a contract for being unreal during his time with us. Nobody else could do what he’s done and whoever we get next will be a downgrade sadly.

A failure of a season? Up until last year, klopp and liverpool (heck even their deluded fans) would have killed for this failure of aseason we just had. 2nd in leagie, a domestic cup, semis of another, past madrd and a knockout round in CL. The mighty utd would koll for it now! ditto spurs, chelsea etc etc. All have spent as much as we have, some more. All have 'top' managers.

Our 100 point season United came second and lost the fa cup final, second in two major comps, no one would say that was successful. We’ve had a bad year but we are allowed it considering what we’ve achieved. Time to regroup and go again

City's comparison to Liverpool is the fundamental clash in the Premier League.

I agree with your characterisation of Liverpool. The way they create chances is different to City. They rely on pressing their opponent into mistakes high up the field to create opportunities for their forwards against a defence that is out of position. Liverpool might face problems defending their title because teams tend to be more defensive against the Champions hence they will have to create a higher percentage of their chances through midfield creativity which at the moment isn't there. This may become a very big issue for them. I don't think Liverpool fans appreciate the new problems they will face defending the title, and there has been no discussion of this in the football media.

In regards to City, all our problems seem to stem from one weakness: central defence which has been well documented. Failure to replace Kompany was compounded by injury to Laporte whilst Rodri struggled in Fernandinho's shoes. I anticipated a City pick up when Laporte returned. I thought the Garcia and Laporte partnership was sound and that City would be able to play a 433 as before with Rodri the deep-lying midfielder supporting two from KDB/Foden/Bernardo but Pep continually wanted some extra midfield insurance in Gundogan or David Silva, and this predictably failed. I don't know why Pep did not use Bernardo and Foden more than he did. They seemed to be the obvious solution.

The signing of Ake is good move. It would be fantastic if City could land Koulibaly too. That leaves the left back position where Zinchenko and Mendy seem out of favour. Angelino is a good option as a left wing back, less so as left back. If City were to sign Koulibaly, I think we'd be very hard to beat although Pep's management is an issue. I am hoping he will extend his contract on his return.

I will be move than happy if Pep signs an extension.
This may sound silly but early season I think VAR got into the players heads. It started to effect our confidence. Bernardo got screwed over for his text which again might of had a negative effect on the squad.
Our players will have seen VAR and refs bend over backwards to help livarpool again must of had a negative effect.
You can argue that our players are professionals and it shouldnt but they are human.
I think these things also got into the minds of the management. We can say it shouldnt but how many of us on here were saying this could be our last season as match going fans ?
Than we had CAS and the 2 year ban in the back ground , on the management and players minds.
City players, management, and fans have had so much shit thrown their way last season, yet we won 1 cup and quarter final of CL and SF of the fa cup plus finished second to the most helped side in the history of football, in the most bent season ever.
Yes we lost more than we would have liked but in most of those games we didnt play shit , some just not our day, some fucked over by VAR, some the keeper played world class.
We are the only team that 99% of the time have to play against a 10 men defence, liverpool dont.
Hopefully the new signings will give the squad a lift , VAR cant be as bent this season ( I hope) and we go again. I still believe Pep is the best manager around but who doesnt have a brain fart every now and again
