Lots of expected links to Ruben Amorim because of Viana appointment. However, Xabi Alonso has a very powerful block of supporters within City. One of those is Pep. He was his number one choice to become his assistant after Arteta left. City were extremely impressed with his loyalty towards his employers at that time. Alonso had a clause inserted in his contract renewal which included accepting any offer from City and some other big clubs.

I'd have to see who the "other big clubs" were before evaluating that clause. Bayern, Real and Barca, fair enough, but if it includes liverpool, not so much.
