Peter Kay tour

Went a couple of weeks ago after blagging a reduced price ticket. Really is a show of 2 halves. I thought the first half was garbage, it was like the same nostalgia schtick on repeat. When he spent 15 minutes repeating TV adverts of the 70/80/90s I thought I might not return for the 2nd half.

Second half much better although if I'd paid full price for a ticket I would not have been happy. Almost as unhappy as the AO charging £9 for a pint of Moretti.

He came back on stage for an encore and within seconds it was clear he was going for a re-hash of the first half of the show (more group singalongs), so up, out and onto the Metrolink before the crowds hit, Result.

His voice and look has changed, voice has lost it's fullness and he's lost a lot of weight. He has gone through a health battle though as well as losing his Gran, he's been seen many a time at Christies unfortuntely, let's hope he's over that battle and on the road to recovery.

Just wish he'd write some more original material, I still love re-watching Phoenix Nights and That Peter Kay Thing

Went Friday this pretty much sums it up for me, seen all his prior shows and this left me and the three others i went with underwhelmed, we all said the same, disappointing.
Noticed the act contained a lot more blue which goes against his usual routine.
Personally, I think that's him done after this tour and would agree he needs to concentrate on one off originals.

Managed to get some tickets for a show in 2025.

He's entitled to his privacy but I think it's been impossible for him to hide that he's had cancer, unfortunately. Everyone knows someone who's had that voice and that face when they're going through chemo - the one he had when he was introducing the 2020 Amarillo during that big night in while having a Solero.

Glad he's back touring and well enough to get started again. If the weight loss is intentional then fair play to him. If I don't manage to see him, either because he gets ill again or for some other reason, then I won't begrudge him at all. He's already given me hours of entertainment and if he fancies a rest then he's earned it.

It’s wrong because he’s a very private man but Kay’s ill health was all over social media. Going public with it is simply personal choice.

I find his stand up quite sanctimonious and he just states the obvious (despite doing it very well.) However, I think Max & Paddy’s Road To Nowhere was genius.

Went last night very disappointed only laughed a hand full of times, he even rehashed stuff from That Peter Kay Thing, I’d be very surprised if he actually completes the tour over the next few years, obviously the cancer has took its toll. He’s been doing the tour a year it’s nit very polished and there were constant mistakes as he lost train of thought, it was sad to see really.
Anyone thinking of paying over the odds to watch it, don’t, you’ve seen most of it before and I thought the tribute bit was very cringing and should’ve been kept private if I’m honest.
I think he’s run out of material, let’s face it all his early stuff was about what he did before he became a comedian and then had massive success so now what does he talk about now as a multi millionaire private individual, I think this is why Lee Evans retired, they lose touch with the man on the street through no fault of their own, so they can’t relate to us anymore.
I hope Peter fully recovers and comes back maybe with Phoenix nights or something else but for stand up I think it’s time hang up the mic.

just been to see him tonight at the AO Arena. Gonna say 8/10 max.

Reading your post again now I can see some of what you mean. It was more polished than you described, but in every other respect hard to disagree with you.

I did enjoy it, and glad I went, but I wasn’t crying with laughter very much - though tbf I was never like that with his stand up “before” really.
Whereas M&P, Phoenix Nights etc was (and still is) cry out loud funny.

I went too, and this sums it up well.

That first half was woeful, me and the Mrs were joking after paying £18 for 2 beers and queuing for ten mins for a piss, that we’d waited 18 months for that. Second half was far better, but the end of the show thing was dreadful.

I wish him all the best but he needs a complete redo

Totally agree saw him in February and was really disappointed. I think it was at least half an hour in before I laughed. And left before the encore . Also how much weight has he lost if it wasn’t for his voice you wouldn’t recognise him .
