Suspending registration during transfer windows as we did last summer would also work a treat.

this, but also agree with what URG said.

NO! I personally hate this idea. The whole point of a forum is open availability; stopping registrations because we do not have enough moderators is a cop out.

What really needs to happen is that Ric and the mod team need to get together and start thinking about appointing new mods. It also doesn't help that they have a hesitation to use the mod tools because they slow the forum/knock it offline. I'm working on it though and think I may have the answer, maybe that will get the mods moving a bit.

How many mods are there?

You'd be surprised. UUBlue and Dave Bentley both already have over 50 posts.
Hang on a second. Don't mention me in the same breath as David Bentley3. I'll have you up for libel!

Honestly I'd just ban new accounts for the summer. This particular forum has become worthless over the past week.

I disagree.

This would create a relatively two tiered user system, and places undue importance on post count. Remember, post count does not equal authority, or knowledge. Also, determined WUMs could quite easily accumulate 50 posts without a problem by spamming the shit out of the board. This would create it's own efficiency problems.

The best way to deal with them, is simply ignore them, but many of our long term users seem to have a problem doing this.

I severely doubt that WUMs will accumulate 50 posts without being spotted plus I doubt most of them would want to post 50 pro-City comments to get the one chance to post a crap thread.

You'd be surprised. UUBlue and Dave Bentley both already have over 50 posts. Also, in your scheme, if somebody makes several anti-City posts, they will be labelled a future WUM. Forums should encourage debate and not stifle it to a pro-City view.
its not about disencouraging debates but the scheme would stop the numerous threads dave bentley3 has already created and it is pretty clear this guy is on a wind-up and not after a logical debate between fans.

I'm not sure how much more I can take of newbie posters registering on here at will and starting umpteen threads of crap. Over 30 new posters have joined today alone and I would hazard a guess that most of these are wind up merchants (and not very good ones at that).

I recently joined another forum (not a sport related one) where newbie posters were unable to post in certain sections of that forum until they had 50 posts to their name. Because I was a bona fides poster, I had no problems with this and over time built up enough posts and then posted a few threads. I got to know a few other posters and they got to know me.

In my humble opinion, Bluemoon is a superb forum but it risks losing credibility and popularity amongst geniune/ loyal fans if the current spate of wind up merchants registering and immediately posting crap is allowed to continue.

I therefore suggest that consideration be given to not allowing newbie posters the ability to start threads in any section of Bluemoon until they have posted at least 50 posts. This will not only hopefully weed out the wind up merchants but will also help geniune newbies get used to the board and how everything works. It may also stop the needless "what's WUM mean?" thread or another "Tevez thread" being started.

If anyone agrees with me can I suggest that they reply on here with a yes. If you don't agree could we start another thread with an alternative suggestion. Whatever happens I hope this stimulates debate on how we should tackle the scourge of the board right now which threatens the good ship Bluemoon.

I suggested this to Ric directly a few days ago so it's already on his to do list... Trouble is that he's a busy bloke so it's unclear when it might get done.

i would suggest any time would be fine!

with our current circumstances people will never cease to join forums and spout shit so any time would be great!

I know Ric is a busy man etc but the longer the registration process continues as it is the worse this problem is going to become and it will drag the board down and posters might go elsewhere or Bluemoon will become known as theh place for wind up merchants & rags rather than the great forum it currently is.

Er, it's a City forum and it's PRIVATE. You probably think the Catholic Church is wrong for not allowing Muslims to become Catholic priests.
