Petrol prices

Yeah, I get it could be a standard mechanic default blaming, but what caused all the warning lights to come on? Only the once after filling up at Tesco?

He even volunteered it as the issue before I’d said I’d got fuel at the supermarket.

Is it 100% an urban myth, or is there substance in it?

I doubt the mechanic had shares in Esso, so it’s unlikely that he‘d send business their way for no reason.

My experience suggests one of two things.

Either it was just a random shit batch of fuel or supermarkets add some stuff to keep costs down.

Its a myth end of - Ford diesels prior and post about 2016 were no issue - just didn't want to accept responsibility by way of a recall - a Ford saleswoman at the dealership told me that and said she and her husband had binned their Focus and C-Max diesels because of the problem. Its a Ford/Mazda/SEAT dealership and the staff car park became full of SEAT's - funny that eh?

Fair enough.

Mine wasn’t a dealership and was a Skoda.

It was a one off incident. It never happened again.

In three years I can't remember how often it happened to me all I recall it was service every 12500 miles replace fuel filter at 3rd service ie 37k miles. Mine couldn't go one service period without a replacement so at 37k miles it went in for a service having had 3 fuel filters plus the one it came with. As I had them for 3 years and did around 100k miles in that period then by then all trust in the car was lost. Chuck into the mix as it got older the electrics were an issue - it was a push button start but when the key went funny it would not lock and the immobiliser would not set but the start button worked regardless and the dealers were shit I just hated that car and all Fords - I think Ford lost the plot when the axed the Cortina lol

My first car was a 1990 Escort. It was alright, but the real axle snapping on me stopped me purchasing any further of their cars.

we had a 1968 Mk3 Cortina growing up. Loved that car. The smell of 4 star petrol etc.

I’m still to be convinced that supermarkets don’t water down their fuel though!

Mate of mine works at the refinery in Brisbane, he's a Chemical Engineer. I asked him about Woolworths or Coles petrol (Our supermarkets) and he said don't worry about it, it's all out of the same fucking tank. Dont see how they could water it down when it's delivered from the refinery.

I agree they don't - they can't - as was said it all comes out of the same tap. This country will remain bolloxed until we understand badge snobbery - a Skoda is a cheaper VW made intentionally so by VW and supermarket fuel is cheap because its a loss leader not coz its diluted with shit

I definitely got the Skoda bit early on.

I haven’t avoided supermarket fuel out of snobbery, the last time I bought some, my car went bonkers.

Maybe it’s time to go back though. You guys are suggesting it’s good.
