Petrov minutes applause

Well done to The Villa fans who started this and well done to the City fans who showed respect at the game yesterday, no need for any negativity as to whether or not you agree with it, just well done!

Villa fan here, I'd like to say thanks very much, your club did you proud today. Nice touch. Shame your scummy neighbours couldn't have had more respect instead of, on 19 minutes, singing songs about winning 19 titles.[/

Nice of you to come on BM and thank the city fans, we are a bunch that is like that, all clubs should respect players at times like this.

We have seen some terrible gestures from fans, no more so than the saints fans that taunted sergio when he was stretcherd off first game of the season.

All the best for rest of season, get 3 points at the swamp when you play the rags ! !

He was sat in Gareth Barry's box behind us with Jimmy Milner and I'm afraid he didn't look well at all and it put life into perspective seeing him. Sure every Blue wishes him the very best....

Sadly our mindless minority have turned this 19 minutes applause into a shambles. We do it as a tribute to him (his shirt number) it's not meant to be a wind up to opposition supporters and the majority of us with half an ounce of common sense know that not everyone knows why we're doing it (why would they). Unfortunately the others that take it upon themselves to give it the "no respect" bollocks after the applause.

Apart from yesterday there's not been a game where it hasn't happened and I'm at that point where I go and take a piss on 19 minutes to avoid twating someone. We're on our second thread on Heroes and Villains debating whether to knock it on the head.

Don't knock the applause on the head, just the berating of other fans who, like you say, may(probably don't)understand the significance of the applause. If you stop now,it may affect Stylian's resolve,he may think you've forgotten him or you don't think his illness is an important topic for the fans any more.

My mate is recovering from cancer,he seems to be out of the woods, fingers crossed. He used Lance Armstrong as his inspiration during the dark days of chemo & the operations, & he was devastated when Armstrong was found out,he said he felt decieved and let down.We have all tried to pick him up & are doing Movember, plus trying to sort out some fundraising stuff to do with him next year. This has had the desired effect & he's reinvigorated, never underestimate the power of positive thoughts & actions.

Keeping Stylian's plight at the forefront of everyone's minds & showing him that you care for someone you consider to be one of your own will,I've no doubt, inspire him & help him get through his dark days.

that's Bolton's prerogative at the end of the day, Villa fans want to applaud on the 19th minute so that's their choice, they shouldn't have a go at others for not joining in but these days it's the culture that you're expected to join it, it's an issue I agree but on them actually clapping Petrov I don't see the issue.

Why anyone would choose to stand with arms folded and not join in (cant be bothered to join in) is a little baffleing. I understand that those that are unaware of it might not join in, but those that are aware of it should join in out of respect. Its not exactly askin alot is it.

Anyways, really proud of our club and the fans that showed class.

Just out of interest, would you consider the other cancer sufferers who were no doubt in the crowd yesterday to have no class if they decided that actually they weren't going to, for a full minute, stand clapping someone else who is going through exactly the same thing as them. Especially when they had been encouraged to do exactly the same thing in respect of the same person only a month earlier?

And if we get Villa in the cup in two months should those same people 'have some class' and stop for a minute to applaud the same man going through circumstances extremely similar to their own?

And should we, as City fans, be clapping those of our own fighting the same disease at every match? Or standing to applaud them whenever we see them during the week?

I would have thought that someone goin through the same thing would have an understanding of what he's goin through and wish him the best.I dont think it takes much to understand that we cant do claps etc for everybody that suffers from whatever condition but maybe it could be looked upon as a clap and show of respect for not only Pertov but those suffering the same?. We're gathered there to watch a game of football and the matter is football related so it goes hand in hand. You wouldnt expect people at a music concert to do a minutes clap for Petrov but they would maybe do something if the person in question was related to music.

If one of our players was suffering in such a way, would you stand there with your arms folded and not join in with the show of respect because millions of others are sadly suffering the same?.

In a way, I do understand what you're saying, but I just wouldnt choose to look at it that way for the sake of clappin for one minute. Footballer or not, If clapping for one minute can give an individual a little extra fight against something so terrible, I wont be against it.

Keep it going mate just realise that not everyone knew what it was about, although more now do.This was the case in the cup game and the league game gave us a chance to make amends and i think we did that.I pray he recovers for himself and his beautiful wife and kids.

Thanks, City. You're the only club in the Premier League to have done this and it was a wonderful touch. Always nice to see football fans unite and on behalf of AVFC and Petrov, thank you. It was a lovely moment.

every right thinking person would wish sylvan the very best in his fight again this terrible illness
