From SSN’s PL Questions feature — they just won’t stop with the unnecessary and [potentially] destructive pressure for him to start “NOW”:
Will Phil Foden be given a Premier League chance? (Man City v Brighton, Saturday, 3pm)
Phil Foden scored his first senior goal for Manchester City in midweek
Pep Guardiola has always said he wanted to ease Phil Foden into the Manchester City first team, giving him 15 appearances, mainly off the bench. The teenage midfielder's performance against Oxford in midweek was a further sign of his development and why he now merits a chance to show what he can do in the Premier League. At the Kassam Stadium, he created two goals thanks to sublime passes and rounded off his efforts with a clinical finish in the closing stages.
From ESPN’s W2W4 feature — less foreceful, but the pressure is the same:
Might Phil Foden get a league start for Manchester City?
Your heart doesn't exactly bleed for Pep Guardiola. The Manchester City manager has been without Kevin De Bruyne since August, but happens to manage probably the only team in the Premier League who could lose their most influential player, and carry on without blinking. With David Silva, Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan, Guardiola has some pretty solid senior options to fill-in for De Bruyne -- but you can certainly add Phil Foden to that list now.
Of course, it was only against Oxford United, but Foden's performance in midweek earned further comparisons to Andres Iniesta,
comparisons Guardiola was quick to avoid. Foden is clearly ready, even at 18, for the highest level, and it's only a matter of time before he starts a game in the Premier League. Could it be this weekend against Brighton?
