He doesn't need to be out on loan. He's getting as much playing time as he needs. This year has and will be a great development experience for him

How many minutes per season do you think is enough to help him develop ?

He is already better than last year so training and the minutes he has got is clearly working,if he is not in the squad then he might be sick or injured but everyone jumps on pep not playing him, patience,he seems to have it

As sad as it might sound,I think he needs to go on loan too. He simply isn't playing enough. This is looking a lot like All Alcantara at Barca. Too talented to not be playing weekly, but playing behind legends in Iniesta and Xavi.

This kid has best Midfielder in the world potential. You can only nuture that with consistent game time week in week out.

There is a chart on players who become WC. There is a certain # of games and miniutes you have to hit by 21. The # o f players who are WC who didn't achieve that are so few. Have to find that analysis again.

Whatever that # was, Foden is certainly not on track to hit it.

I think he's developing fine at his current rate.

Expect before the season is out he'll get lengthier outings. With full games in the cups and possible dead champions League games it really has been another great step forward for him.

In terms of getting playing time in our squad - you have a point.

But in terms of why he isn't loaned out - well, that's a different matter. Given our midfield depth, and Pep's penchant for playing veterans unless they're Messi-esque - Foden was never going to get regular starting time in our squad. He should have been loaned out this season to grow technically, emotionally, and given his talent, as a leader.

I'd argue that training under Pep is far more important getting games at a lower level. He isn't physically ready to be a starter for a Premier League team, so what would he really gain from a loan? He's not long since turned 18 and is receiving a footballing education at the minute that he simply cannot get anywhere else. While this opportunity is here for him to learn under the best manager in the world, he needs to be able to have access to it.

Foden starred for the u17s at the World Cup playing as an inverting wide right forward, the Mahrez role; most prodigious but diminutive talents start out wide before gradually making the transition inside as they mature - both Silva’s are prime examples. Phil could have doubled his participation this season had Pep put faith in him and Diaz to share that role, rather than spend £60m on Mahrez.

Instead we’re going to lose Diaz, and compromise Foden’s development - having already lost Sancho, it’s going to be a shame to lose 2 of 3 elite young European talents for the sake of Pep vanity signings (the pursuit of Alexis likely contributed to Jadon backdooring it in pursuit of a fairer path to first team football)

He doesn't need a loan now.

The interesting thing will be in July, when he's probably made 35 apps for us (he's on 19 now) even had a few league starts if he's lucky.

At that point, it won't be a case of sending him to a lower level, it will be Premier League clubs queuing up to have him start for them. Then, the club will have a big decision to make because I know Pep would want to keep him near by, but if he's going to do that, he has to be able to honestly say he'll get more benefit here than playing a full season as a starter at a decent premier league or european club of our choosing who play Pep compatible football and have a good manager.
