Had to let my lad go last night, had a bit of a tumble down some concrete steps a couple of weeks ago, then 3-4 days later started to struggle on his walks scraping his claws, seems he may have exasperated a nerve problem in his back and started to lose use of his left hind and front leg, so sad as he was in great health two weeks ago to seeing him at the end, so prefer to try and remember him for being the lovable, lazy, greedy sex pest he was.

For anyone considering getting a dog, please don’t be put off by getting an older rescue (with a sound temperament), he was brilliant and I don’t regret a single day, not saying he didn’t have any challenges, which is always likely with a hound (following its nose, finding the most obnoxious smelling things he could find to eat), but he was genuinely a wonderful little dog and he’s left a very big hole in my life.

Gutted for you,we had our Corgi /Jack Russell cross for just under 18 years,and when we had to make the decision to have her put to sleep it was heartbreaking for us our daughter's grandchildren ect,said at the time we wouldnt have another dog but now I'm retired and the missus might retire soon we are thinking of getting a dog from a rescue

Good on you mate (and thanks), I’ve said the same, partly because of the pain at the end, and partly because of the vets fees, in time I’m sure the former will subside and I’ll see things differently, it’s a small price to pay to give another dog a good home.

Been trying to find the sanctuary where we got him from (ex dealt with them) so I can set up a direct debit and donate stuff I have here, I’ve narrowed it down to one but not heard back from them, if you do go down that route, I wish you the very best mate.
