PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

That's classic. Dr Dan Plumley the great football finance expert in an interview with instantcasinos.com (yes, really) said this:

I can see three things wrong with just that one paragraph. First, there are no rumours of penalties, there are possible penalties at the panel's discretion. Secondly, the number of allegations has no bearing at all on how serious they are or not. Thirdly, "significant penalties" if "any of" the allegations are proven. Really.

What is it about Sheffield Hallam that vomits up so many football finance experts, all of a sudden?
Unconscious bias perhaps, they all want to impress the top dog so believe everything the boss says without trying to think for themselves.

Belief perseverance and the backfire effect is in plain sight every single day.

i cant honestly say that i ever saw it referred to as dirty gas money, if they were slaughtered it was because RA had links with putin and they made it a political issue which is understandable, but they could make the same issues with any of the american owners and their ties to politicians which never ever happens.
You’ll love this one

This is just wrong.

The clamour to find us guilty is led by the media, but that's not because they hate winners. It's because a clamour to find us guilty generates significantly more revenue than would a clamour to find us innocent.

The media are in it for themselves - for the money.

This works in a number of ways. Self evidently, there is much more engagement in anything that says 'City are guilty' than in the opposite. This is because fans of the most popular teams all want us to be guilty, therefore will engage more actively with anything that reflects that. Every single media outlet with any serious presence has explored the 'City are Guilty' story from numerous angles, and they have all gone down very well with a lot of people who get to read the stories they want to read.

Of course, it is not just a question of what gets clicks. The stories that are planted and leaked, they are done by individuals with their own agenda. What might be in it for the journalists writing this stuff up? Access? Further leaks? Off-the-record briefings? There is a long history of journalism being a two-way-street - you scratch my back etc.

The important point is that this is not some particular quirk of the British people. There are vested interests at work. That is why there is such a clamour to find City guilty.
I would definitely agree with all that. My point was more fluffy and general.

While the media are driving the agenda to make money isn’t in doubt, I was pointing out that our rival fans wouldn’t care if we were wrongly found guilty…they want us gone by whatever means because we are monopolising trophies.

Not sure if the correct thread but I hope Liverpool fans read this before passing judgement on City and our owners, sponsors and our financial arrangements.

I particularly liked the line “escaped sanctions after Camerons government intervened in 2012”.

How dare you bring Hillsborough into this. End of discussion.
But, but, but that doesn’t actually refer to …. oh fuck it, it wasn’t their fault, it definitely means more and I’ll just go and beat myself senseless with a rolled up Sun newspaper as penance for even thinking about disrespecting the greatest football club in the world!
