PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

I agree. Actually my support of city hinges on the decision.

I like to keep a strong set of morals and if it was our rival clubs found guilty of this, we would be be all over them for years of cheating. We would want them out of the game. I think I'd have to keep that same sense of morality when it's closer to home.

If we are found guilty, I'll be extremely ashamed of the club because we always considered ourselves "good" club. It would be hard to lend my support to an outfit that's breaking laws.

I'm sure I won't stop being a city fan per se, but I think my level of investment in it will no longer be there. Maybe time will be a healer but I'll be heartbroken if we are guilty, especially knowing how we would view other clubs if they were in that position.

I think we'll beat it though or at least come to some settlement where all parties come out of it not looking too bad.
Ok you’ve had your fun now kindly fuck off

I would struggle to disagree more with this. If we were talking about long established rules that existed for a legitimate purpose, your expectations of the club might be reasonable. But we are not. These rules were invented and put in place by a protectionist cartel with the sole intention of stifling the development of City, and anybody else who might challenge the established order. Not content with that, the goalposts have been consistently moved to make compliance for us more difficult, whilst clear transgressions by the cartel have been ignored and interest free loans have been deemed legitimate.
You reference being ashamed if we are guilty. I feel the other way around. I obviously want us to be exonerated, but the shame would have been if we had meekly just accepted the bent status quo, rather than going for it as we did, and winning everything.

Exactly this ^^^^^^

My take is we are thereby not here to consider our fucking innocence

I guess the protracted farce is because these fucking idiots in the cartel have ended up in a legality battle of their own making and involving lawyers etc the whole thing is not about city but more the legality of the EPL and that will have proved very complicated in order to preserve the product itself

Destroying a football club is not complicated as history has proven you only have to look at Rangers to understand that

My support is irrelevant to the charges, partly because the charges we are alleged to have broken have no impact upon what the players did on the pitch and were related to how the club is financed (which really isnt my problem), but mainly because its my club irrespective of who our owners are or what they have done.

Even if I wanted our owners to change (and like many on here many years ago I protested about Swales, both before and after matches) but I will still support my club. We are not a cult, our owners can do bad things and I wouldn't defend them, but I would still support my club

I disagree. If they are proven to have done what they are accused of, they’ll be selling up and moving on very quickly.

And we as fans will still be here because none of us have done anything wrong at all.

If we are found “guilty” of an owner trying to find ways of funding his own club and having the funds to do so. And this leads to the damaging of the club.

Then I am finished with premier league football. We can see with Villa and Newcastle how a cartel are holding back competition. Any action against us would confirm that the premier league is designed for the select few.

I’m not sure that hoping for some settlement where all parties come out of it not looking too bad reflects that strong a set of morals. Nor does a desire to drive rivals out of the game if they’ve broken rules. Forgiveness and understanding my moral friend!

While I agree with your point about how we'd castigate other clubs , if the boot was on the other foot, I have to point out this is not a criminal or civic case .

I have never thought our club is " good ", if that word applies to the owners . That notion leads to cultdom . Hello dippers .But a lot of good people support this club and it's that brotherhood of joy and suffering that I value .

But ....Our owners are not being accused of breaking any law , just the rules in a closed shop. The PL is a highly malleable gentleman's club, apparently happy to keep the doors wide open to anyone with money to buy their overpriced tatt , but who didn't want us there any more when we started drinking all the booze and winning all the prizes without smashing the place up .

For me the whole thing smells like a racist vendetta. Have to say though the PL played a PR blinder with the number of charges, which makes our club the equivalent of worst serial killer in the world but , more importantly, will also guarantee years of legal wrangling and post hearing consideration .

This is the age of the news spectacle and keeping the "spectacle" in the news for years was the main objective . Football is a gift with its never ending coverage keeping the story in the eye of the public in a way most other spectacle based outfits would die for .Every time we play it's like the publicist's wet dream.
Truth is established these days by spectacle and repetition of spectacle to grab attention , facts don't matter , just look at Trump, Farage and Boris for recent political examples .

In another time perhaps the media would have been creating considered factual content about the astounding resilience of our team under enormous pressure (and despite having been cleared of very similar accusations by the highest court of arbitration in European football) , about the hostile environment City fans are living with and how it's lucky noone has yet come to grief , about the disruptor model and how it does a mix of good and bad things , about the racism implicit in the sports washing allegations, about the way PSR cases are escalating and how fans were never going to understand why City's case was taking so long when other clubs seem open and shut .But these are complex issues that would need funding and / or brave intelligent journalism and proper journalism hardly exists in sports media now . Spectacle is more effective and social media is the perfect vehicle.

Let's just remember how it was the need for spectacle and a criminal act that started this whole thing rolling .

I honestly suspect there is no smoking gun and the PL have always known it . We have been attacked by the media equivalent of their biggest nuclear weapon in a war that has all the self righteousness of a crusade . And when we won a recent battle the silence from the media was deafening .

For myself , when the accusations dropped , I felt sick . But when the smoke cleared I felt both sad and angry . Sad because I can't freely talk about the game I love with any random football fan on a casual basis (on the bus or at social events or even my family ) without wondering when the word "cheats" will come up and the usual sound bites . Angry because of all I've said above and the way our fantastic achievements as a team in the pitch are being poisoned . As fans we are, by definition, biased but the relentless take down of our club with these drawn out and by design accusations has turned me into a more guarded , cynical , more revengeful supporter and I don't like that .

If you had morals then you would support your team through thick and thin. All this statement says is that you're a spineless system believer. I dont really think that qualifies you as a city fan to be honest.

Your naive mate. These rules were brought in to stop a little club breaking up the elite. I’m happy to follow the club until I’m dead.

And I’m also in no rush to see an outcome. The longer it takes the more money these shitty clubs lose in legal fees. Levy must wake up every morning thinking “ that’s another 5k down the Pannick
