Leeds. After travelling back from Middlesbrough and our 8-1 narrow defeat. It was RAG central. I went for a lonely walk to escape trouble and ended up meeting some Leeds fans who were lovely. Before that it was a long two hours. Went back the next day.

It was dangerous. I was at Lime Street at 4 pm before. However they didn't fancy it unless picking off stray people. We had a group and they marched us the four miles in an escort.

Milan airport after the Juve game in Turin.A big drop of snow and that was it.
Ferried to a nearby hotel and back and forth to the airport for the next two days but no flights into the UK.A few lads found us back door into BA first class hospitality but after a few free beers and croissants were were ejected.
At the time it was grim but now it was one to remember.

I remember that day only too well.8-1 defeat at Boro, last game of the season.id been partying in Halifax night before, got a lift on m62 services to the game ,(supporters bus organiser got arrested before the game)got dropped off at services later that day .. stood outside having a ciggy on my own, contemplating death and deepest depression after watching City collapse away from home to a team I despised.....I looked up to see a Coach arrive on the far side of the services Car park...and felt suicidal as loads of reds got off the coach and started dancing around
They,d won the league again...it was Rag Central ,again basically, and I'd nowhere to go...they were just far enough away not to notice me ..with no colours on,probably the worst footballing day of my life..
what a come down from the party...

I lived in Liverpool for seven months before I got my place here and Scousers were generally fine. Most Everton went yet Liverpool did not.

Watching the England v Italy final locally was fascinating. It was only half full and no real noise was made when Italy won. Scouse not English.

1983, on the Special to Arsenal.
Train pulls up in the middle of nowhere near to Watford. After (what appeared to be) ages, one of the stewards comes into each carriage and explains a train has caught fire just outside of Watford Junction and at the moment no trains can pass and we were about 8th in line......
Must have been well over an hour the train finally goes slowly onto Watford Junction and it was pretty much 15 mins before kick off when we reached Euston.
We all piled onto the underground and some plonker pulls the chord on the tube....... it was half time when we got to Gillespie Station.
The away end turnstiles were shut so we (maybe 250 - 300 of us) get escorted to the Arsenal fans section of the Clock End where they had one or two turnstiles still open and then are marched under the stand on the concourse into the City end of the terrace, with the old bill struggling to keep the Arsenal fans from getting at us.
Was 0-0 at half time and we lost 3-0!

I was talking with Ian Cheeseman about this a few months back, as he was a steward on the train. He said 4 of them jumped off the train when waiting in line to go through Watford, scrambled down the embankment and somehow managed to call a taxi (must have found a phone box or a farm house with a phone!) and went to Watford where they caught a train into Euston and made it on time.

Everything about that day was grim. The Middlesbrough cops shuffled half of the rail arrivals into a pub by the station. I jibbed over the wall witha few others and looked for another pub. Nothing. The college and wastelands around the ground were bleak. The freezing fog made me think of Anne Fine's The Woman in Black. The transporter bridge did have bungee jumping into the fog. Worth a look in. A solace to look back on. Those grim footy days make every other day wonderful. #SAVEourSVEN

I was studying in Aalborg in 2010 but still had a season ticket so decided to fly home for the derby which meant flying to Copenhagen then on to Manchester. Went out on the lash the night before the flight and decided to stay up and go straight to the airport. Got on the plane and passed out to be woken up in Copenhagen where I headed to my connecting flight. Trouble was, that Icelandic volcano had erupted so all flights were grounded so I was stuck in Copenhagen. Sounds amazing, but I'd been there about 10 times in the proceeding months and wasn't particularly happy about missing the derby. Anyway, no trains back to Aalborg for 2 days so booked on one and found the cheapest hotel I could and a pub the next day to watch the match. Ended up with a last minute winner from that ginger **** Scholes just to make me even more fucking miserable, plus I was now skint too.
