Places to get stuck following City

Everything about that day was grim. The Middlesbrough cops shuffled half of the rail arrivals into a pub by the station. I jibbed over the wall witha few others and looked for another pub. Nothing. The college and wastelands around the ground were bleak. The freezing fog made me think of Anne Fine's The Woman in Black. The transporter bridge did have bungee jumping into the fog. Worth a look in. A solace to look back on. Those grim footy days make every other day wonderful. #SAVEourSVEN

Middlesbrough probably the grimmest place I've been to in the U.K., and one of the grimmest in the world. It was at the old Ayresome Park. A dump to go with the town. We won, though. Couple of brilliant goals by Asa and Gary (Owen) — so that cheered me up.

Isn't Middlesbrough crack head capital, or am I making that up? Seem to remember reading it.

I am currently stuck at York after my TPE connection was cancelled. Hopefully another will come?

My worst was with TPE two or three years back. We were returning to Edinburgh after a match. The TPE train arrived bang on time at Piccadilly only to throw us all out at Preston because of ‘Staff Shortages’. No replacement bus was provided as had always been the case previously. We were told to travel back via Glasgow.

The next train to Glasgow was also pulled. The next one got us to Glasgow Central eventually. By the time we had walked to Glasgow Queen Street the last Edinburgh train was gone. We had to wait an hour or more to catch the night bus to Edinburgh that stopped at every lamppost at huge expense. We arrived at Haymarket Station at around 03:00 rather than at 21:45 the previous day. We had to get a taxi back home to add to the expense.

I always thought that TPE were the worst rail company but Avanti are now running them close. I think that both are owned by the worst bus company: First.

I was thinking of Glasgow for a Rangers match the other month but the only train back got cancelled. Sounds like an utter shambles up there.

Had to ring the wife and daughter to bring two cars to get us back from Manchester

Yes I like the pub at York Station. Preston a decent place to get stranded at. Lancaster is a disaster area.

Fell asleep on the train from Dortmund to Dussledorf airport for that away game in 2012-ish. I'm not sure where I ended up but luckily it was still in Nord Rhein Westphalia so I had time to get another train and still catch my flight.

I think if I had to live in that place I would forgo the bungee, and just jump.
Without a doubt, the grimmest ground and town I've ever had to watch City in.

1983, on the Special to Arsenal.
Train pulls up in the middle of nowhere near to Watford. After (what appeared to be) ages, one of the stewards comes into each carriage and explains a train has caught fire just outside of Watford Junction and at the moment no trains can pass and we were about 8th in line......
Must have been well over an hour the train finally goes slowly onto Watford Junction and it was pretty much 15 mins before kick off when we reached Euston.
We all piled onto the underground and some plonker pulls the chord on the tube....... it was half time when we got to Gillespie Station.
The away end turnstiles were shut so we (maybe 250 - 300 of us) get escorted to the Arsenal fans section of the Clock End where they had one or two turnstiles still open and then are marched under the stand on the concourse into the City end of the terrace, with the old bill struggling to keep the Arsenal fans from getting at us.
Was 0-0 at half time and we lost 3-0!

I was talking with Ian Cheeseman about this a few months back, as he was a steward on the train. He said 4 of them jumped off the train when waiting in line to go through Watford, scrambled down the embankment and somehow managed to call a taxi (must have found a phone box or a farm house with a phone!) and went to Watford where they caught a train into Euston and made it on time.
Jesus I remember this. We were on a service train stuck behind the train on fire. Fortunately our train came to a halt at Tring station. Guard made an announcement that there would be a delay. As we were on the main line into London we decided to go to the nearest pub. Even if our train went we could get a local train into London. About 50 of us in pub and every so often someone would leg it to station to see what was happening. In the end a British Rail worker said they would come and get us when track was cleared. We were in the pub over 2 hours. Shit faced, missed kick off but happy days.

Hamburg away UEFA Cup 2008, originally booked through Thomas Cook for 4 of us, got phone call few days before the game saying all 4 of us had been cancelled due to 1 of us not having required loyalty points, ended up getting a flight through a supporters club but no transfers and had to make our own way to stadium, we got separated coming out so I asked police where away coaches were parked they pointed to the right so I headed off that way, the ground had a forest nearby and I ended up in there and couldn't get a phone signal, I saw light and heard a crowd of people ahead of me and it was clear I was at the wrong end of the stadium, then my phone rang and it was a number I didn't recognise I answered it and it was another blue who was on coach with rest of the lads and said he was only 1 who could get a signal he put my old man on phone, as Hamburg airport wasn't available we were going to a different airport I can't remember which one but was probably distance of Manchester-Birmingham, my old man said it was my problem and under no circumstances would they come back for me, I said OK but just to let you know as I was the only one who took a bag with me they all thought it was a good idea I held all the passports (so glad I did), eventually uncle came back for me and we got a taxi which got a puncture on the way, we eventually got to airport which was like a ghost town but thankfully coach got to airport about 10 minutes after us

Nothing dramatic, but after a 0-0 draw at Torquay in a League Cup tie (82/83) I reached Bristol Temple Meads station to find I'd missed the last train north and spent 5 hours on a not very comfy waiting room bench, finally got home in Sale at about 10am.

Not as interesting or as funny as previous.....But living in south Cumbria was a fooking mare in the 80s to 20s
Reds everwhere so not the greatest place to get stuck especially when city away are on telly in boozer full of the vermin.
Had some interesting conversations to say the least.
Great hardcore of blues here but always outnumbered.

After the 4 nil game at Derby (JC got penalty spot measured and repainted ) we got stuck behind the team bus coming back over the tops , more by choice though .A couple of times we had to get out and deal with fans from Rags , Macc, and a couple of ther non league teams .The players were loving it .Royle,Doyle & Donnachie especially .

Dublin Heuston Station, kipping on a bench waiting for train to Galway (1991 pre season tour). Arrived in Dun Laoghaire on ferry early hours, made way to Dublin, then found out train not for another 5 hours. Depressing, freezing and wary of every fucker hanging about.
Just seen this post

Do you remember at the train station that Irish lad who was traveling around with his camping gear

He made us a brew. Everything he had was camouflaged even his bible
