It is a shame it has taken this global catastrophe to shake the publics collective apathetic mindset held about players and the obscene amounts they earn. That goes for twats like Gordon Taylor the bent greedy sack of shit to and shitbags like Riaola who do sod all in the grand scheme of things. It has been a source of constant displeasure of mine seeing the vast amounts of cash in the game go to a very limited few.
I always think how good would public fitness areas be if half the cash in football was put directly back into the community. Public pools closing and such. They should be free to have grand ideas of expanding and getting people involved in activities not worried if they can pay the pool heating costs for the week. It has always pissed me off with no abatement.
Hundreds of thousands of pounds a week is inexcusable imo no matter how you cut it. If everyone on earth had a good standard or living then fair enough but that is not reality sadly. The argument that they bring in much more is moot. The excess could build a hospital or a health club etc for all to enjoy. I am proud City are one of the better clubs for this.
Bankers etc, the argument they generate wealth, well why the hell are there food banks then? it is utter poppycock and anyone defending it should have a less myopic view. Wealth is not distrubuted evenly enough.
Well if we don't pay them x they will go to y company. Then ban y company from offering over a certain amount, flout the rules, jail the boss shut the company down. Algorithms and AI could run stocks and shares now anyway with few areas that need the nuance of human interaction. No one needs a million quid bonus for shuffling cash about in the markets.
If a company saw its arse and said right ill move out the country, fine but we will make sure every person on earth knows you and your decisions here and will will lobby hard so nobody does business with you. You just watch how many CEO's are willing to take on that fight, very few i bet.
There in lies the core of the issue, it would take a huge effort collectively by everyone to adjust capitalism to keep wealth distributed a but wider. The machine of capitalism is hard to stop. Possibly inevitable due to human nature?
I don't feel players should have to take a cut etc i just don't think we should have come to this point in the first place.
