Player that everybody loves but you think is overrated

John Terry. He was obviously a very good defender, position and reading the game, very good, and got a decent number of goals from set pieces. However, he lacked pace and couldn't play out from the back, could only really play as a right sided defender, wasn't versatile. Compare that to the likes of Stones, Ake, Laporte and Dias, who can do all the things Terry can do, plus more. He also wasn't the best English defender of his generation, Ferdinand and Campbell were both better, in fact that was England's best defensive partnership at the time. I think King would have been better if it hadn't been for his injuries. Then there's the off field issues...

Jamie Carragher. Similar reasons to Terry, but wasn't as good as him.

David Bentley. Hailed as the next best thing, aside from a decent spell at Blackburn, did nothing of any note at Spurs and never made it at Arsenal.
You could say every player mentioned in your post for me.
All were nothing special at international level.An English trait that the press seem to ignore.

Callum Hudson Odoi signed for Forest for £3m and recently played for their U21s against Harrogate.

He is another who has been flavour of the month for no reason and picked ahead of Foden for England. He holds the record as England’s youngest ever player in a game against Montenegro where Foden didn’t even get on the bench.

And now he’s commanding £3m transfer fees in a Summer where average and unproven players are going for over £100m.
Think your over stating things in the last paragraph

Strange take but... KDB I think he's a fantastic player but friends that only watch motd highlights think he's incredible,
I watch every minute live and watch the other 8/10 passes that don't come off not just the 2 worldwide that TV shows .they won't believe me that he was getting moans off the terraces last season .
I repeat he's an absolutely brilliant player but TV watches rate him higher than me .
I'm more with the MOTD highlights people than the moaners.

He certainly has days when his passing radar goes slightly awry but even on these days his work rate is phenomenal and he is constantly pulling opposing defenses out of position.

Past: Shilton, Butcher
Present: Alexander-Arnold, Jesus
Always surprised when folk say Shilton was over rated.

Brian Clough himself said the player was worth 10 pts a season,and a first division title and two European cups must surely suggest he was a safe pair of hands.
Tbh I was too young to really rate his performances on a technical level and you may have better input from me there....

However Forest would never have won the title if they had kept with the erratic England u21 keeper John Middleton in goal..after a very good start to the season they went to Highbury where Middletons pathetic performance forced Clough and Taylor to secure Shiltons transfer.His out standing double save from big Mick Ferguson's headers at Coventry in the penultimate game of the season won Forest that title....ive spoken to those who were there that day and it's one of those misty eyed moments.. Ferguson himself,an adroit lethal header of a ball couldn't believe it..

I'm aware some on here didn't rate his England performances, but I always preferred him in goal over Ray Clemence..

Interesting choice tbh.

Terry butcher always looked to me to he a solid defensive unit in tandem with Russel Osman,and perhaps Ipswich town's success and respect late 70s early 80s suggest the player was decent.i never felt he let England down either.

The only error I can recall him making back in the day was when Dave Bennett made him look like an ale house player at Villa Park ,81 ' Fa cup semi final when he drew the foul which led to Paul Powers brilliant free kick goal. ;)

I always liked Jesus.and prefer to remember his time at City before the two damaging, serious injuries...I saw a lot of footage of his time in Brazil leading the line as their number 9,taking some frightening violent challenges from opposition as a teenager, and simply getting up and getting on with the job...and scoring some outrageous goals,before we signed him.
Our management,as expected,clipped his wings a bit, I mean by restricting the natural Brazilan flair, and turned him into a bit of a work horse,which of course led to success for the whole team...but maybe.just maybe neutered his goal scoring prowess....a point open to debate I guess.

I love skilful players and there were enough examples of his tight bsll control during his time here..the one that sticks out for me was Bournemouth away few yrs back( where they kicked him all match )
when Out on the left touchline nr corner flag their left full back came in to challenge and a quick Brazilian shuffle of ball and feet sent the defender flying into the hoardings...brilliant.

The most recent league match he has played he scored a stupendous goal against utd ..so I'll leave it there...

The other player you mentioned I can't stand .vastly over rated player in red.

Salah. Not as well known before lfc. He's just a £30m player without them. The lfc and utd media elevate their players to higher levels than any other team;
Rashford is on a par with Mbappe?
Bruno = KDB.
De Gae - Best goalie in the world.
TAA best midfielder, nay defender, nay wherever he will play he will be the BEST.

Its all bollocks. And so it is with Salah. Klopp made him good, SA would be paying £170m for shirt sales if they paid £200m for him.
Salah is an incredible footballer, terribly biased shout that
