Player thread: Fernando (2014/15)

Like Garcia, Fernando is not a player needed in games like these, especially not in a 2 man midfield. He's meant to break up play, but since every team we play against-- bar maybe chelsea and united-- only park the bus against us, he offers us very little. You people are criticizing him for him for the wrong reasons. He's a specialist. Meant for the games when we need an extra mid in the midfield. Wait for Barca before you yap too much... I wouldn't argue against the fact that we need another cm, maybe one a little more capable of playing both ways, but fernando is not dead wait. He's done no more/less than I would've expected him to at this point.

i would agree but he is also supposed to to recover balls and break attacks which he has been mostly poor against the poor teams

it would also imply that pellers is stupid for not seeing this.

Then you've got Lampard, a midfielder who cannot move and looks incapable of passing with the required speed but might score a goal every now and again. We're desperately short there, just as we were last year. Instead of adding the second creator we needed, we just swapped one holder for another.

Another example Pellegrini just shoving a bunch of players together and expecting the overall quality difference of the 2 teams to win us games.

Fernando is not a world beater but in his actual position (sitting behind a midfield 2) he's a damn sight better than he has looked for us most of the season.

Yeah my thoughts here. Fernando is maybe an upgrade on Garcia if we're talking the role Garcia was used in late last year. But that might even be a stretch.

If we're really moving Yaya out this summer I damn well hope some significant firepower is coming in. i.e. Pogba and another creator type.

i was always advocating for a cm in the transfer thread in the summer (and Sanchez but i wont go there i accept that he chose arsenal). Instead we got lampard. We thought Yaya was not motivated (though that is wrong) and knew he would leave for 5-6 games yet we had absolutely no cover. I was even in favor of keeping zuculini (think he qualifies as u21)

as far as options on paper that seems right that the ferns are our only option but i"d have put nasri in there. He has the control and can keep possession even if he isn't that disciplined

Fernando cant be blamed fully but when you cant do your job against minnows then you will get calls for being sold. Id have schniderlin any day over him

shouldnt' have signed him because his position doesnt apply to our team except in 2/3 games a year. Pointless being there in home games vs lesser sides
